SPIKE TV TO TELECAST GLORY SPORTS INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMING

 GLORY Kickboxing Program to Debut In Primetime LIVE On Spike In Fall, 2013

 New York, NY, June 27, 2013 – Spike TV will expand its sports line-up with the addition of GLORY Sports International’s (GSI) brand of kickboxing premiering in Fall, 2013.  The action-packed LIVE sports programming, part of an overall GSI content initiative, will air 2-hour events in primetime on select Saturday nights from around the world as part of a multi-year partnership that was announced today by Jon Slusser, Senior Vice President, Sports and Multiplatform Programming, Spike TV, and Andrew Whitaker, Chief Executive GLORY Sports International, Pte Ltd.

LOS ANGELES, CA, June12, 2013 – Spike TV’s “Guys Choice,” the star-studded seventh annual tribute to the lords of guydom, took place Saturday night at the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles with a cadre of unforgettable moments.   The only celebration of its kind, gathering the biggest names in music, movies, sports and entertainment, premieres on Spike TV Wednesday, June 12 (9:00 PM – 11:00 PM ET/PT).

 

Ben Affleck took home the night’s top honors, as the Academy Award®-winning director was presented his prize by another actor with an Oscar in his trophy cabinet, cinematic icon Clint Eastwood.  Upon receiving the award, Affleck, whose career has seen him portray American servicemen, took time to give a heartfelt thank you to the American Armed Forces members in attendance.

 

Jennifer Aniston, with the help of Comedy Central’s Jeff Ross, playfully roasted an appreciative Jimmy Kimmel before bestowing the “Funniest M.F.” award upon the late night talk show host.

 

Burt Reynolds was named this year’s “Alpha Male,” accepting his award from “Boogie Nights” costar Mark Wahlberg.  The latter serenaded Reynolds with “The Touch” after the two reenacted a scene from the 1997 cult classic.

 

Vin Diesel, fresh off of conquering global box offices with “Fast 6,” was surrounded by members of the United States Armed Forces onstage while accepting the “Troops Choice” Entertainer of the Year award from Jessica Alba.

 

The forthcoming “Man of Steel,” from director Zack Snyder and produced by “The Dark Knight” trilogy visionary Christopher Nolan, was named “Most Manticipated” film.  Superman himself, Henry Cavill, flanked by costars Russell Crowe and Amy Adams, along with Snyder, accepted the award on the film’s behalf.

 

“Old School” castmates Vince Vaughn and Snoop Lion were reunited under a Speaker City banner as the former received the “Guycon” award from his “Wedding Crashers” costar Bradley Cooper.  “Ted” director, writer, and star Seth MacFarlane was joined by costar Mark Wahlberg to receive “Guy Movie of the Year” honors on behalf of the breakout hit, with the duo singing the “Thunder Buddies” song in appreciation of the honor.

Bellator MMA Launches In UK This Summer

BELLATOR MMA LAUNCHES IN UK THIS SUMMER ON VIACOM-OWNED VIVA

Newport Beach, CA. (June 6, 2013) – Bellator MMA will now be available on television for the first time to the many passionate mixed martial arts fans in the UK, as it was announced today by Bjorn Rebney, Bellator CEO and Kevin Kay, Spike TV President. Viacom’s popular VIVA channel will begin airing live Bellator fights on Wednesday June 19 as part of the MMA league’s summer series tournament featuring a stacked card including King Mo, “Babalu” Sobral and War Machine.  In September, VIVA will telecast Bellator MMA’s 9th season.

Bellator’s foray into the UK market increases their global reach to 116 countries and territories. Available in every one of the UK’s 26 million TV households, VIVA has one of the highest profiles amongst 16 to 34-year-olds of any UK channel, with 50% of its audience comprised of that hard-to-reach demographic and one in four of that age group in the UK – 3.7 million viewers – tuning in to the channel each month.  Bellator is the first mixed martial arts franchise to be televised on the channel.

NEW YORK, June 05, 2013 – Spike TV’s “Guys Choice” (#GuysChoice) has added Super Heroes to the already stellar line-up of the globe’s hottest superstars.  The network announced today that this year’s “Guys Choice” will recognize “Man of Steel” with the honor of Most Manticipated Movie of the Year.  The movie hits theaters June 14, during a year-long celebration of Superman’s 75th anniversary.  In attendance for this special moment will be cast members Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe and the film’s director, Zack Snyder.  The network also announced today that it will honor Golden Globe-winning actor and male icon Burt Reynolds.  The 2013 “Guys Choice” Awards tapes Saturday, June 8 at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA, and premieres Wednesday, June 12 at 9:00 PM, ET/PT on Spike TV.

Spike TV Bolsters Original Series Department with New Additions and Key Promotions

SPIKE TV BOLSTERS ORIGINAL SERIES DEPARTMENT WITH NEW ADDITIONS AND KEY PROMOTIONS

 

Los Angeles, CA, June 5, 2013 – As Spike TV continues to evolve and develop its brand through broad-appealing original programming, the network is announcing additions and promotions to its Original Series Team.  The department’s growth correlates with the network’s biggest ever commitment to originals, which include the network’s hit series “Ink Master,” “Bar Rescue,” “Tattoo Nightmares,” “Auction Hunters,” and the upcoming “Fight Master” and “Criss Angel: Believe.”

“The Original Series team’s expansion reflects our ever-continuing goal to create distinctive, bold shows geared toward a more-gender balanced audience,” said Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV.  “We are developing more original series than ever before, and we are bringing in two real superstars in Kevin Bartel and Hayley Lozitsky to join one of the best development teams in the business.”

The Original Series department changes include the following:

Chris Rantamaki is promoted to Senior Vice President, Original Series and will continue to report to Levy.  Rantamaki will oversee the day-to-day department activities relating to development and production.  Rantamaki joined Spike in April 2011 as Vice President, Original Series and was instrumental in developing the highest-rated series on the channel, “Ink Master,” which delivered nearly three million viewers for its most recent season finale.  Rantamaki also oversees the successful “Tattoo Nightmares,” “World’s Worst Tenants” and “Urban Tarzan.”  Before joining Spike, Rantamaki spent four years at the Discovery Channel.

“I am thrilled to announce Chris’s well-deserved promotion today.  He’ll now be taking more of a leadership role in the department and company,” said Levy.  “He is a rising star in our industry and his creativity, passion and taste have played an enormous role in helping Spike grow its slate of successful original programming.”

Justin Lacob is promoted to Vice President, Original Series.  Lacob previously served as Director where he oversaw two of the network’s signature series, the critically-acclaimed “Bar Rescue” and “Savage Family Diggers.”  Lacob is now developing two of the network’s highly anticipated series, the upcoming “Tattoo Rescue” and “10 Million Dollar Big Foot Bounty.”  In his new role, Lacob will also work with Levy and other members of the team in the development of the network’s scripted miniseries.  Lacob came to Spike following a two-year stint at Intuitive Entertainment, where he served as Senior Director of Development overseeing such projects as “LA Shrinks” and “Love Broker” for Bravo.

Hayley Lozitsky joins Spike TV as Vice President, Original Series.  Lozitsky previously served as Senior Vice President of Development at Ellen Rakieten Entertainment where she developed non-scripted/scripted programming.  Among the series she developed include “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” for Food Network, “Pretty Wicked Moms” for Lifetime and “Hideous Houses” for A&E.  Prior to that, Lozitsky was an agent specializing in non-scripted television at UTA.  She began her career at E! and Style Network  in Programming and Development.

Kevin Bartel joins Spike TV as Vice President, Original Series.  Bartel previously served as Vice President of Development and Current Programming for All3Media America.  Prior to that, Bartel  joined Eli Holzman as one of the first employees of the U.S. arm of the British production company, Studio Lambert and helped launch “Undercover Boss,” the #1 new show of the 2009-2010 season for CBS.  Working across All3media Americas diverse slate of projects, Bartel has  helped develop and produce television for A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, Bravo, CBS, CMT, CW, Discovery, E!, Lifetime, Logo, MTV, Nat Geo, NBC, Oxygen, Spike, Style, SyFy, TLC, TNT, Travel, TruTV, Vh1 and USA.

After nine years at Spike TV, Senior Vice President Tim Duffy will be leaving this fall to start a production company with his twin brother, Mike Duffy.  “Tim has been an invaluable asset to me and a tremendous force in developing some of Spike’s signature series.  While we will miss Tim on our team, we are very excited to partner with him on a development deal as he sets out to create our next hit series with his new production company.  We wish him tremendous luck and a big thank you for his time here.”

New York, NY, June 5, 2013 – Spike returns with more skin in the game going into season three of its hit original series “Ink Master,” which returns Tuesday, July 16 at 10 PM, ET/PT and will culminate with a LIVE finale in October.  Sixteen of top tattoo artists will battle it out in permanent ink for a $100,000 grand prize, an editorial feature in Inked and, of course, the bragging rights title of ‘Ink Master.’  For the first time this season, the show’s Human Canvases will have a vote in the Elimination Tattoo, helping to determine which artist is ultimately sent home.

Each episode puts the artist through their paces, competing in various tattoo challenges that are not only designed to test the artists’ technical skills, but also their on-the-spot creativity, where they must create and execute an original tattoo by command on a ‘Human Canvas.’  Artists will be asked to tattoo in a number of distinct styles including black and gray, realism, pin-up, cover-up and Asian, among others.   The masterpieces these artists create will last forever, but so will their mistakes.

After every challenge, the contestants face a tough panel made up of Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction), renowned tattoo artists Chris Nunez (“Miami Ink”) and Oliver Peck (Elm Street Tattoo) and a roster of guest judges.  Also this season, the Human Canvases will have their say in who gets sent home.  The Canvases will form their own jury, deliberate as a group and pick one artist per episode who will be up for elimination.  In the jury room, expect to witness heated arguments and wicked emotions as the Canvases defend their new ink and protect their artist.

In the season opener the artists are literally put behind bars the moment they arrive when they must create a prison-style, single-needle fine line tattoo on actual convict Canvases in a prison cell.  The artists are further challenged during the Elimination Tattoo to perform a cover-up tattoo on their human ex-con, looking for redemption and a new life “on the outside.”
