EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS
New York, NY – November 7, 2011 – The Entertainment Group division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B) today announced the appointment of Kassie Canter as Executive Vice President of Communications. Canter will oversee all corporate communications and entertainment publicity for the Entertainment Group, which includes COMEDY CENTRAL, Spike TV, TV Land, Atom.com, and GameTrailers.com. She will report directly to Doug Herzog, President of the Entertainment Group for Viacom.
“Kassie’s a proven media strategist with great industry experience and a strong understanding of our company and culture,” said Herzog. “Kassie knows our business, she knows our brands, and she’ll be a great advocate for our content in the marketplace.”
In her role, Canter will oversee all external and internal communications for the Entertainment Group. She will be responsible for developing and implementing a coordinated communications strategy for the Group, supporting its focus on adult demos through media outreach, messaging, and other externally facing communications opportunities, including conferences and events. Canter will also manage the individual communications teams for COMEDY CENTRAL, Spike TV, TV Land, and the Entertainment Group’s digital properties as they publicize their content and communicate the value of their brands in the marketplace.
Previously, Canter served as Chief Communications Officer for Oxygen Media, where she oversaw all public relations and public affairs activities. Prior to joining Oxygen, Canter was Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Media Relations for NBC. In her role, she led all communications for NBC Corporate, NBC News, NBC Sports, CNBC and MSNBC, and managed corporate communications around acquisitions, legislative issues, and the Olympics.
Both independently and with the public relations firm Robinson, Lerer & Montgomery, Canter has served as a communications consultant for various media brands throughout her career, including AMC Networks, Lifetime, The Weather Channel, and Viacom’s own Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon. Canter is currently a lecturer on the faculty of Columbia University’s Masters Program in Strategic Communications.
