Los Angeles, CA, July 31, 2008 – Spike TV has ordered ten 30-minute episodes of “1000 Ways to Die,” the visually shocking series that explores the many different and bizarre ways one can meet their maker. The series is executive produced by Thom Beers, the same creative mind who brought viewers the critically-acclaimed hits “Deadliest Catch,” “Ice Road Truckers” and “Ax Men,” and is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2008.     

“1000 Ways to Die” showcases some of the most outrageously true stories about those who succumbed to the grim reaper in the most unorthodox styles.  Each case takes you through a fast-paced full reenactment interlaced with dramatic witness testimonials, fun historical tidbits, scientific expert explanations and vibrant CGI effects reminiscent of classic comic books.  Playing off the commonly misconceived notion, “that could never happen to me,” “1000 Ways to Die” works to dispel that myth in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, highlighting the comedic irony in all the crazy ways people can get themselves killed. 

Originally a two-part special, the May premiere of “1000 Ways to Die” performed well in its timeslot, averaging a robust 0.9 rating in M18-34 and an average audience of 1.0 million viewers. Compared to the ratings in the timeslot the previous year, “1,000 Ways to Die” was up +133% among M18-49 +104% in M18-34.

“We may not readily admit it, but we all have a strange fascination with death, particularly all the gruesome details of how it occurs,” says Beers. “The bizarre humor in some of these cases is undeniable.” 

Some of the more outlandish cases this season include death from eating a jalapeno pepper, a simple scrape-turned-flesh-eating virus and a case of a man trapped in an avalanche with plenty of food and water, only to succumb to methane poisoning from too much of his own gas. 

Thom Beers is CEO and executive producer for Original Productions, the television production company responsible for a myriad of hit television series, including “Monster Garage,” “Ax Men,” and the 2008 Primetime Emmy® nominees, “Deadliest Catch” and “Ice Road Truckers,” with a combined total of six nominations. “Depth Charge” is a pulse-pounding action film about a ship’s doctor (Gedrick) who must wage an internal war on a US nuclear powered submarine when it is taken over by its very own disgruntled captain (Roberts).  On the eve of his retirement, Captain Krieg has staged a coup d’etat on the USS Montana and is threatening to launch a nuclear missile on Washington D.C. if he is not paid a one billion dollar ransom.  It seems like a foolproof plan, but Krieg failed to account for Doc, the seemingly harmless ship’s doctor who, together with Piersall (Warren, Jr.), intends to take the ship back before the President (Bostwick) must make a very tough decision to destroy the submarine and everyone on it.

Additional casting includes Mark Hamill as Bin, Sio’s manservant and protector and Yuri Lowenthal as Kuma, the teddy bear-headed warrior from the original “Afro Samurai” series.  Best known as the young hero Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, Mark Hamill has had a successful career on Broadway, as a voice actor in both animation and video games and as a comic book creator.  Yuri Lowenthal is the voice of Sauske in the hit children’s anime series and cultural phenomenon “Naruto.”

New York, NY, July 23, 2008 – David Carradine and Daryl Hannah reunite for the first time since their roles on the big screen in “Kill Bill” to star in the two-part original movie miniseries, “Kung Fu Killer” slated to premiere Sunday, August 17 and Monday, August 18 (10:00 PM – Midnight, ET/PT) on Spike in HD.

Set in late 1920s in China, before Communist rule, “Kung Fu Killer” tells the story of White Crane (Carradine), an orphaned son of Western missionaries who was raised as a Wudang monk to become a spiritual leader and master in martial arts, and his ultimate journey for revenge and justice.

In the first installment, Crane’s peaceful world is shattered when Kahn Xin (Lim Kay Tong) and his mercenaries raid his temple and slay his mentor. In search of his master’s murderers, Crane infiltrates the Shanghai underworld where he encounters Jane Marshall (Hannah), a lounge singer from Brooklyn, who is on a mission of her own – to find her lost brother, who is being held captive by Kahn. Realizing that Kahn’s evil plans are more intricate and widespread than originally thought, Crane teams up with Jane in order to enter Kahn’s inner circle. From there, they tread carefully in order to dismantle Kahn’s destructive plans before assassinating him. Soon, Crane’s battle becomes a moral one, as he finds himself torn between his peaceful Wudang upbringing and the cold-blooded life of an assassin.

The second installment, “Kung Fu Killer II” shifts gears to a more personal drama as Crane returns to help rebuild his shattered temple. However, the peace is short-lived as, back in Shanghai, nightclub singer Jane is kidnapped by Bai Yang, an old classmate and rival of Crane’s who plans to employ her in the sex trade. It is up to Crane and his young protégé Lang (Osric Chau) to save not only Jane, but Lang’s true love Wei.

“Kung Fu Killer” was shot entirely on location in China at the Zhejiang Heng Dian World Studios and the towns of Fong Yang and Heng Dian. The miniseries marked the first time a production of this scale was produced by a Western production company utilizing an almost exclusively Chinese crew. “Kung Fu Killer” also features the singing debut of Daryl Hannah, who sings such period standards as “You Made Me Love You” and “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows,” along with others done with a period-authentic jazz mixed with torch-song style arrangements.

They say imitation is the best form of flattery…

New York, NY, July 3, 2008 — Spike TV realizes that in the summer, some broadcast networks might be “lost” like a “desperate housewife” or an “ugly betty” in search of “bachelor” so they turn to imitating shows on cable.  In honor of this, Spike TV celebrates “MXC, The Original, Not The Ripoff, Weekend” on July 5-6 as an homage to the network’s original series based on a wacky Japanese game show which debuted five years ago.

Using the actual footage from one of the most popular primetime Japanese reality game shows, “Takeshi’s Castle,” Spike TV’s “MXC” is re-written to create an entirely new comedic storyline.  The series is not dubbed and there is not a single trace of literal translation from the original show.  “MXC” has become so popular that many of the games featured in the Spike series such as Mudslingers and Log Jam can be seen in surprisingly similar forms on other networks.

“MXC, The Original, Not The Ripoff, Weekend” airs on Spike TV on Saturday, July 6 (9:00am-11:30am ET/PT) and Sunday, July 6 (3:30pm-5pm ET/PT).

Paul Abeyta, Peter Kaikko, and Larry Strawther of R.C. Entertainment serve as Executive Producers and writers for “MXC.”  The show is written and voiced by seasoned actors Victor Wilson, Christopher Darga, Mary Scheer and John Cervenka.
