After the video for “Thriller” dropped in 1983, every single person in the music video business was forced to step their game up and start making mini motion pictures wrapped within musical compositions. Since then, some great pieces of art have emerged, but MTV’s unfortunate pimping of reality shows has forced most of the world to get their music video fixes on the internets. There were a lot of movies worth watching in 2008. So many, in fact, that it was hard to pare them down to just 10 for this list. But pare I must. Some of the films from this year were just too good to be left off a top 10 list – they either set new records, started a new franchise or simply stood alone as quality movies matched by few.

It’s been a crazy year. For every high watermark set in measures of performance – be it horsepower, handling, track times, or fuel economy – there’s been equally trying levels of adversity. We’ve gone from horsepower wars to hypermiling, from the Nürburgring to Capitol Hill, from gold-plated Porsches to the Tata Nano. If nothing else, it’s been an interesting ride.

A celebrity living a disastrous, destructive and out of control life is morbidly fascinating. You know it’s wrong to be entertained by their self destruction, but for some reason you can’t help it. This year has been full of famous females whose lives have spiraled out of control. After many years of watching music videos, I have come to the conclusion that it takes an extraordinary type of human being to put together a complete piece of garbage. You have to have a total lack of taste, creativity and talent to pull this type of thing of.
