Good job Mafia I thought for sure the Yakuza would win because of the displine factor but I guess shear force wins over tactics in the end.

Weapons seemed misrepresented this week. You don't bring an ice pick into combat; you sleeve it, pull your mark in close, and keep him off his guard right up to the moment you end his life.
And I can't remember reading or hearing about any Yakuza that intended to live for a long time who used nunchaku or sai.
It seems like in a fight where both sides are sporting long-range automatic weapons, the margins should have been closer.
Off-topic: anyone else feel like this is building up to a "U.S. Marine vs. Iraqi Insurgent" match?

I'm not sure where they got that the shotgun was a better weapon than the P38. Shotgun should be a close range weapon, not midrange. And in hand to hand combat, I really don't think the Mafia could have a chance against the Yakuza.

If you're talking about the Simulation (which you shouldn't), the Yakuza saw the Mafia members trying to light the cocktail, and they opened (the Yakuza) opened fire.

I don't understand why they didn't use the samurai sword against the baseball bat. i think they should of went with the brast knuckles vs the nunchucks and the baseball bat vs the samuraisword. i like the show but i think they reallly need help when match weapons.

this show is just CRAPPPPPP. its a biased opinion, based on these so called "experts." has anyone but me noticed how the weapons are conveniently selected? i mean an ice pick really? why dont you just show up with an damn pencil while youre at it. what happened to all the katanas in the background? isnt that one of the most notorious weapons that made yakuza who they are? wouldnt you rather use a bat versus a short sword instead? they really need to factor all weapons in and all fighting skills, cause after the knight pirate episode, this one just did for me... the show isnt even worth watching anymore. i think this episode should have been a draw or somewhat closer in scoring.

Yes, 3-2!
Mafia totally won this. Better long range, better guns, better men.
Few questions though:
When the mafia used the bat on the balistic jel, the jel was already busted by the yakuza. This would definatly disturb the data, was this data used at all?
Why didn't the mafia use thier pistols? Theirs were much better than the Yakuza and just as accurate?
I also believe that some mafia gangs wore light, bullet-proof vest, why wasn't this used?

I honestly thought the Yakuza was going to win and while I am of full Sicilian decent I was just being honest with myself. I believe the Mafia won fairly because I found the Yakuza to be too flashly. The Mafia was aggressive in all the right ways. Even as I watched I began to think the Mafia was showing themselves to have a more boiled down hit'em hard not fancy approach. Which was what I had expected from the Yakuza. I think these guys truly try to give it to whom they think is the stronger 'warriors'. By the way, 'Deadliest Warrior'? More like 'Notorious Murders Fighting Each Other'.

Wow I knew the Yakuza were going to get screwed this show is all about power power power! Just because you hand someone a weapon that makes them a warrior? What about skill and technique does that count for anything in this show? The mafia were nothing but a bunch of Italian guys with guns not warriors. What the hell ever happend to brain over brawn? I mean the final battle came down to a trained disiplined yakuza wielding two sai against a prick with an ice pick, I smell bs. And by the way I thought the edge was given too the sai over the ice pick, or maybe it's not that cut and dry. Never the less this episode really ticked me off.

Why wasn't the martial arts technique of the Yakuza factored into this match? I have more than just a couple friends who practice martial arts, and they're all a damn sight better than my simple street style. I'm lucky to ever win any kind of sparring match, let alone a fight where my unpolished skill is what's deciding if I live or die.
Also, I saw several weapons on both sides that weren't even included in the testing. Katana, brass knuckles, ACTUAL explosives on both sides (mafia and yakuza both had access to tnt/ military-class explosives), even the S&W revolver which was featured prominently in the show but not tested. The switchblade was talked about, not tested, but made it into the final match. What....the...hell?
All in all, it's a nice matchup and very close, but so many glaring inconsistencies and missing factors it makes my hangover come back.

So Spike TV is really going to go on a limb and suggest that all the years of martial arts training and discipline of the Yakuza will be no match in a hand to hand combat with mafia thugs. It's great to hear that the martial arts is just flashy and pretty to look at. Beautiful... this show is both ridiculous and ridiculing. 1 viewer lost.

Where did the 5 vs 5 come from great idea especially in this type of scenario but why not use it in all the episodes? Is it something new that was brought into the software or was this a one time deal? I feel that this makes for a fairer fight I do not know of many warriors that went into fight in a 1 vs 1 granted there where a few crazy SOBs that I am sure would try one vs one but not many especially the ones we have seen up to date the only one I could even see trying it would be the ninja but even that is unlikely.

What it came down to was the tommy was/is a superior submachine gun to the sten. Even more simply the 45 ACP has the greater stopping power over the 9mm which is used in the sten smg and walter pistol. Besides firepower; hand to hand is a toss up. Diegos FTW.

Truthfully to say yea the tommy gun is better and the sawed off shot gun but if fighting technique was involved along with a more aray of other weapons (katana) it also shows the lack of effort actually put into this computer system i mean the sawed off shot gun vs an accurate pistol the accuracy should be acounted for bease a mid to long range that shot gun aint as affectve. also the nunchuks were move diverse easier to used it could swing multiple attacks and the bat good for mobbing old ladies, seriously a pick common that should have gotton no kills the Sai way long and could disarm that pencil in no time. All i am tryi ng to say is that that computer is crap i could see one of the yakuza guys was gettin pissed at one of the mafia dude and about to kll him on the show. if this were a real fight the mafia would get thier asses handed to them.

This was one of the better episodes because it was an even matchup. It was a toss up but I was hoping for Yakuza after al the testing was done. I did like the 5 vs. 5 also. And someone else brought up the katana...they even showed them handeing it yet it wasn't tested. The outcome would have been much different if the katana was used instead of the nun-chuks (Sorry don't remember how to spell it if I spelled it wrong). We all knew that the Mafia would win in the firepower area, but I in real life, if it came down to one on one with no firearms (Like it did in the of the show) then a Yakuza gang member would wipe the floor with a Mafia gangster. Great show, big fan, but I feel a little dissapointed (Not as much as me being enraged about the ninja getting beaten by a damn spartan!). But what are ya gonna do? Great show...can wait for the next episode.

First of all, I must agree that the katana was not included in the weapons arsenal for the Yakuza. And secondly, an ice pick? Third, something the experts forgot about using the nunchaku is the opportunity to choke an opponent out with the chain or rope that ties the weapon together. I'm not trying to disregard the violence the Mafia can inflict, but I do feel the Yakuza were extremely misrepresented.

I thought this episode would be really boring switching to guns, but surprisingly, this was one of my favorites. I found the simulation of this episode to be the most entertaining so far maybe because of the change of scenery or because there were more than two people fighting. The Mafia team made the episode really good too. Both of them were complete badasses and made the episode really funny. The younger one really pissed off that one guy from the Yakuza team, looked like things were about to get out of hand...By the way, didn't the last surviving Mafia member in the simulation looked almost exactly like the younger guy on the Mafia team?
I have to say I wasn't the least bit surprised that the Mafia won, however I was surprised the match wasn't more one sided. When I first saw the shotgun among the mafia's equipment I was like "Holy shit! Mafia FTW" I laughed my ass off after the Yakuza shot their little pistol and the Mafia guy whips out this big ass shotgun. Though I have to admit, the mafia won purely from better equipment. I think that the Yakuza were overall more skilled and if the fight was all close quarters weapons, the Yakuza would have had the Mafia beat.
Next week's Green Beret vs Spetsnaz and it's a complete toss up for me. BTW, is the Deadliest Warrior crew having a matchup prepared for the SEALS?

One thing that I don't think was factored (please correct me if I am wrong) if the effective distance of the sub-machine guns. The British Sten has a much greater effective distance than the Thompson. In addition the Thompson is comparatively heavier than the British Sten, meaning in a quick-draw, the Sten would beat out the Thompson.
I also feel like some of the weapon choices were unusual (as stated by some). Yakuza aren't normally depicted as carry a sai, but you would see them more with a tanto (short dagger). As with Mafia, what happened to the switchblade? Instead of choosing weapons that can "level" a playing field (which I feel this episode did) why not choose weapons that really truly represents the fighters?

Finally they start doing good match-ups. No more of this "Complete opposites! Power vs. Speed!" bullshit. It's really something they should have done from the start. Pairing off similar warriors. Apache vs. Ninja, Samurai vs. Knight, and soforth. Now they just need to work on weapon selection and categorization. Pirate vs. Knight was the hugest offender in this field, in my opinion. I can forgive the three black powder weapons because that's only logical, but they weren't categorized properly.
Overall, I was pleased with the results. Despite the fact that the so-called science of the show is absolute bunk. Really, half of the show is "Hee hee hee watch this ballistic gel dummy/pig carcass get explodered!" and the other half is the dramatization. They don't need the doctor there 80% of the time just to tell us the dummy that got 7 bullets sprayed into him or his brains bludgeoned out isn't gonna make it. Its just more padding for the show. Same with the constant smack-talk the experts throw at each other after every single freaking test, the 300 narrator, and the "Sophisticated computer simulation software" that they conveniently never tell us anything about, but I digress as I am ranting and getting off-track.
In conclusion, KEEP MATCHING UP ALIKE WARRIORS and you'll have a more interesting show. I look forward to Green Berets vs Spetznas

What's up, I'm Zero Kazama, the Yakuza weapons dude, and the network will probably hate me for posting this. Being as unbiased as possible, here's my 2 cents - 1)The sais are defensive weapons first, and if I'm being told that the icepick to the head is deadly, then give me a skull and not a torso. 2)Nunchakus didn't hit as hard as the bat....yeah no sh*t, they're not used like that, where the hell is SKILL taken into account? Anyone that can wield chucks with accuracy probably has enough martial skill to take out a guy with a bat with his bare hands. 3)The sawed off shotgun did more damage at close range but they forget to mention it's useless after a certain distance, and after 2 shots, you're a sitting duck. 4)Me and my senior have 20+ yrs martial arts training, and so do most real Yakuza - don't think they programmed that correctly, do you? 5)WTF with the weapons selection to begin with.
btw, on the Spartans vs Ninja, they forget to mention that Spartans didn't wear armor - their c*cks were literally hangin' out, and ninjas never fight in an open battle field. Ah well, it's TV.

I don't get caught up in the whole karate thing. I have known street fighters that have beat the snot out of karate dudes and boxers too and wrestlers. I would be willing to bet that any gangster back then had been to and maybe participated in illegal bare knuckle no holds bared boxing matches. If you take a bare knuckle boxer that is also a street fighter he could stand up to any karate guy. The mafioso was at least an experienced street fighter. I just think people should get off this thing that asians are the only martial artists.

Well, after viewing this episode I come to the same conclusion as I do with all episodes thus far. For what we can do with theory of "what would happen," these guys don't do a bad job. Looking at the show from an unbiased stand point as someone who just wants to learn more about combat, I like this show. Many people complain about the results and the "bias" of those in charge of the show. I also disagree with some of their representations and interpretation of data gathered, but I agree with them on other points as well. I do think for the first time though, I do believe SOME, not all, of the tests were not equal. The two I ponder over are the long range multiple target test (Thompson/Sten) and the close quarters test (Nunchuck/BaseballBat). In both cases, the tests were not equal. The Thompson had 6 targets as opposed to the Sten's 4, and the baseball bat struck a pig in the bask, while the nunchuck struck a gel target in the head. But, I do agree with their judgment on the remainder of the weaponry, and I like the idea of having multiple opponents per side. Good job Spike as far as I'm concerned.

I think Bat vs Sword Wouldnt work
because sword would have to be a total Surprise attack.
If yakuza pull out a sword
mafia would pull out their gun
And you dont bring a knife to GunFight
I wonder if the yakuza Guy and that Mafia Guy really wanted to see who was the Deadliest Warrior in the Studio
