Not a chance! Spartans were only effective as a group, a ninja is faster, an individual assassin, and used to overcoming a better armoured warrior in a Samori! That ninja would not have dropped from a tree and fought the Spartan like that, he would have snuck up on jim and killed him before he even knew he was there! I don't think this program is very accurate at all, it obviously does not measure the use of stealth or speed properly. This was a mismatch in my mind when I heard of this matchup and the fact that the Spartan wins is not realistic whatsoever!

damien, the spartan shield covered 85% of the spartans body, while the bronze armor covered nearly all the rest. Ninjas never had to deal with a warrior that could use such an weapon for offense and defense, and the samurai is a prime example of that. A samurai had weak points between its armor, but the spartan covered everything with the exception really of just their eyes.
Yes, a ninja could easily kill anything including a spartan using its stealth, but thats not what the show is getting across. They want to see 1v1, in the heat of battle, who would win. Keep in mind this, the tests are not completely accurate. The spartan weaponry test was done by some guy that has never dealt with the actual physical intensity that was the spartan life. Spartans were much stronger, larger, and agile then the guy doing the test. They lived a life of constant physical stress. Those weapons would be much more dangerous in an actual spartans hands, and the results of these tests would be even more off the charts. Not to mention, that shield in the hands of a spartan would have devastating effects on such a small target. It would be like swatting away a fly.
The spartan in my opinion, as as close as you can get to being the perfect warrior. To me, I wasnt the slightest bit surprised that the spartan won. But more importantly...stride anyone?

I call BS on the winner. The Ninja would not have lost. During the reenactment, why didn't the ninja shoot the spartan with the dart when he was walking by? Why did the spartan just shake off the black egg? BS, both of those scenarios would have allowed the ninja to kill him with little effort. The ninja shooting the dart and shuriken when the spartan was coming full bore? What a waste of resources. It's like shooting a tank with a pistol. Why can't you take in effect the fighting styles? You claim the spartan had better weapons and this gave the edge. Didn't the US have superior firepower in Vietnam? How did we do there? Exactly. Same BS is happening in the middle east. Lets fight like ninjas and not bull headed spartans.

So the spartan gets glass thrown in his eye and he recovers in like 5 seconds... While glass in the eye wouldn't kill anyone it would blind them so the ninja could kill him.

Relax damien, that was just a simulation... It wasn't the program at work, just people dressed up like the fighters, putting on a show, retelling what happend. And yes, Spartan hopolites had a great chance of winning in the pressed situation. When the ninja doesn't litterally have the option to kill him in his sleep, then the direct combat match begins, thats what was measured. The shield was really THAT powerful, aswell as a foreign equipment to them, they didn't know what to do.
But I am also angry about this, the results showed for 0 kills with the black egg! That is demented, almost every kill should have been with that! It was their weapon against the samori armor, against any super armored foe, how can it have 0 kills? It blinds them, making them defenseless against the ninjato or the blow dart, or the kamas. I think the computer did not compute this accuratly. (and the edge was just based on killing power, not power to disarm. with the black egg, the spartan would never hit the ninja.)
Oh, and the demo using the black egg was worse! *Spartan: Oh a shards of glass in my eye, I think I'll just wipe them off and see perfectly fine again =)* BS! That's all I want to say, B dot S dot.
On other terms, I can't wait to see Knight vs Pirate. Any guesses? I'm saying knight cuz the pirates guns will have no use on their armor and shield, and eventually they'd need to flee or come closer and get killed.
@MaxGeiger: Why did you not do everybody a favour and do "Pirates vs Ninjas"? Or is there plan to use that in hopes for a second season? lol It must be hard doing your job, knowing that you will piss off half the people everytime you air an episode. You're doing a good job so far, and I really enjoy the show (except the black egg thing..lol)

Yeah I would of figured the Black Egg would of been the fall of the Spartan considering when they computed the shield for the Viking it did pretty much nothing against a Samurai. I think his program is really flawed you see how effective a Spear is and a shield why didn't the viking win? Same reason the ninja didn't cause its for T.V. not to compare real facts against facts.

@battlemaster:
Yes, you're right, it's unlikely that the kama would have broken the chain, but its not unlikely for the tripping part, it was the weapon's strong point, and they often used it on samurais like that. + ITS ONLY A SIMULATION! THEY GOT ACTORS TO DO IT DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS, AND TRIED TO MAKE IT AS EPIC AS POSSIBLE! THAT'S IT!
@mdkpacman:
Comparing the two types of shields is a gross mistake. The spartan's shield are imensly more supperior to the viking's. The method of which it's held allows it for a more versatile weapon/shield than the viking's, and it covers nose to ankle, leaving barely any room for a kill shot, and easily avoidable to and threat of a hit, these shields are the definition of the Spartan hoplite. Ninjas would need to make immense efforts to get around it AND the armor. But the black egg is exactly the weapon to do it. Use trip them, leave them vulnerable to the eyes, and it's then end, the Spartans are blinded.
The system is not "flawed." It wasn't made to show these types of weapons, it was made for damage inflicting weapons and defenses. Stealth is included, skill is included, but how do you compute something that blinds but not kill or inflict lethal damage.
GREAT FIGHT!

I don't believe the Spartan would beat the ninja, the ninja's tricks would leave the spartan wounded and would finish him off quickly. Forget the sheild if the ninja could get the black egg stuff past the sheild like in the displayed fight the spartan wouldn't be able to see and would be killed easily by the silent and deadly ninja. i don't believe the battle simulation in this episode. I think that the brains of the ninja beat the brute strength of the spartan any day- but lets see a viking vs spartan and apache vs ninja and gladiator vs samuria next we have the data already w/o some test with weapons vs armor of the different warrior classes. Lets see the spartan vs the Samuria then cause if the spartan could beat the ninja and ninja beats samuria then lets see if the spartan could also beat the samuria too.

I agree about the nastiness of the black egg, but I think you actually disputed your own point: the egg itself would NOT kill the Spartan. It would blind him. The killing blow is that gets counted into the final tally. Although I feel like the shield got a bit TOO much credit in that line of thought... 400+ kills? Doubtful. That would have been a stunning blow, just like the egg, to set up the sword at close range. I agree with you on your call of BS on that, though.

I agree, my BS meter is way off the charts after this episode, the Ninja easily got the spartan with the black egg to the face which should have blinded him leaving him valnurable for the kill. Also the Ninja would not use shurikan and blow darts while being chased (BS)
The ninja was an assassin and I don't think this show gives them that credit not to mention martial arts masters- could have easily beaten
the spartan with or without the shield. I mean come on get real everyone knows martial arts wins most battles hands down. but the Black Eggs should have given the complete win to ninja 700/300 (300 lol spartan joke) come on get real use style and technique more then brute strength. In my simulation the Ninja shoots the spartan in the arm with the blowgun before he even knows hes in battle and its over

I think the simulation is bs specially at the end of it the ninja would have not waited for the spartan to get in to him with the short sword and if the ninja was hit once with the sword he woud'nt get the second time stuned or not. not to mention ninja's operated most of the time in numbers of 2 and more if there was one there was always at least one watchin somewhere exscept during assassination attempts

@xEldiabloZx:
Hahaha, yeah, my first post said that about the black egg. I think at the end of the show, the finally should be a round robin with all the warriors in a randomized fight, even if some tech would be entirely more advanced (guns vs gladiator, gladiator loses). Also I think the samurai has no chance against the spartan, the shield is that much of an advantage. But it would be neat, Spartan>Ninja>Samurai>Spartan. It would be like rock paper scissors (yea, thats a gladiator joke.)
@Whatworksxuseless
No...just no....ninjas began as farmers protecting their crop...They learnt to fight using their own tools as weapon and progressed their weapons with time and knowlege of what was effective. Some ronins became ninjas after they were stripped of the bushido code, but it was rare... Well, I guess ronins were rare themselves, seeing how most samurai commit sepeku after losing their bushido.

I'm amazed that the Spartan shield was considered so effective in this fight, and considered worthless in the Viking fight. Not that I'm amazed by the effectiveness of a shield, they are extremely nasty.
I would like to see the guys put on a show about the aftermath of the Samurai vs. Viking fight again. I really feel that they could do a better job representing the data collected. I am going to watch the aftermath of the Spartan fight. I hope that people stop spewing the japanamie versions of the ninja and remember they were peasant terrorists that were good at assassination and could expect to lose in a straight fight.
I would love to see the "experts" talk a little less trash and with fewer theatrics, the mixed martial artists guy was ridiculous. Granted that special forces guy (Barry?) was an ass.

In a one on one battle the Spartan's shield made a huge difference. The ninja was capable of doing serious damage with its weaponry but I bejlieve in the long run the shield thwarts enough of the ninja's weapons to win the battle. A couple of things I would like to see happen are other batttle scenarios between the ones who already competed given the fact that all these warriors were from different times or perhaps a tournament scenario in which there can be only one winner. There will be arguments until the end of time on who is deadliest. At the same time, some warriors are going to be better than others when you take every situation in place. All in all each warrior will have its advantages and disadvantages in battle. Only one can imagine the tactics used in the different eras can determine the one true champion.

I am glad to see the show actually get something right. A true warrior,raised as such, and finally weapons getting the respect they should. The black egg... I am sure that nobody else in history would have not thrown anything in the face of an opponent in the heat of battle. I am quite positive that the Spartans never had sand/ dirt/ shit/ leaves/ sticks ever thrown in their faces during battle. The shield covered 85% . What is left? is a small dude jumping around throwing thing that rebound/ blocked by a sheild. The black egg did have its effectiveness against a samurai with no sheild peacocking around. Not a battle tested society. Good job Spike it about time the shield is looked at as both defense/ offensive weapons albeit 2 shows short.

The trash talk is getting kinda old... Personal Skill and adaptability. The ninjas were around for hundreds of years, it really astonishes me that the samurai weren't willing to change their code or discard honor in the face of this force. Though I do understand that their lifestyle and code was hammered into their head. "You will train to fight head on in battle and hope you die with honor." It's the same everywhere. All over the world, those were the codes of the battlefield. But if you think about it, that really limits a warrior. Honor and Manliness didn't do any good to the Spartan, Knight, Samurai or any other big name warrior when you were stabbed in your sleep, from behind or simply the other fighter cheated. At the end of the day, the warrior who his still standing is the greatest warrior. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a beautiful example; Guy is wiping a sword around and all over the place, Indiana pulls out his gun and shoots him! And that makes him so damn awesome. I'd say "If your going to fight, make sure your the one standing at the end of it" should be any warriors slogan.

This struck me as a dumb comparison. Ninjas and Spartans were trained and equipped for entirely different purposes: ninjas were spies and assassins, while hoplites were light infantry. You wouldn't field an army of unarmored ninjas for an open engagement, nor would you send a big, flashy, armored tank to spy on your enemies and quietly eliminate key personnel.
This is kind of like asking, "Which is a better gun, the M249 SAW machine gun or the M24 sniper rifle?" They're tools-- you pick the right tool for the job. Such a comparison isn't especially useful.
Also, didn't like the way the representatives of each side kept posturing and taunting each other. I realize it makes for 'better' television, but it was conduct most unbefitting a warrior. Let's have some respect for our fellow martial artists here.

First off, they flop with the Viking losing to Samurai, now this?! Ninja's had so many weapons they weren't allowed to present because then it wouldn't be even for the Spartan, who in real life, would lose to the ninja. They didn't even bring up his mastery of martial arts as a weapon which alone, would be too much. Ninja would win hands down!

i think everyone is forgeting one very important fight ending tactic that the ninja would almost always use when engageing in a battle with an uncertine out come. and that is 'POISON'! the ninja would no doubt have all his ranged weapons lace with poison to insure death regardless if he could out fight the other person.

Now that I'm thinking about it,I think that for the testing, they should have done a speed test on how fast they could cover their eyes behind the shield. That would have been excellent data for the fight, and show how bad small ranged weapons against the hoplites were.
Basic formula:
X=Chance of being hit.
A=Accuracy/Minute (how many times can the same spot be hit by a blowdart/shuriken/pepper blackegg [include splash damage] per minute divided by the number of items throw)
B=Time of coverage
X=A-B
Okay, REALLY simple, but you get the point. (haha, might be better if one of the spartans tried to block it himself ;) jk

for the ninja to penetrate.
I think it would have been more interesting to see:
Spartan vs Gladiator (who is the better "brute force" warrior)
Ninja vs Apache (the fight of the stealth warriors)
Samurai vs Knight (battle between the professional warriors)
overall, show is ok, kind of a spin off from the "animal vs animal" show they had on a couple of years ago.

If you watch that scenario movie at the end of the show, it shows the ninja throw the egg in his eyes, and 2 seconds later the spartan is not effected by it... Thats complete bs... I also agree with the martial arts expert, the ninja probably wouldnt stay there, he would hide and get you when your not looking... Also the ninja was blowing darts right at him with him looking... Why not hide in a tree and hit him un-aware of his presence... All in all I think this show needs better structure, and better ways of testing results... Why not just pay 2 bums to put on some armor and battle it out?

OK, I have a few points about the Ninja First off the Ninja always aims for voulnerable area for example the spartans feet which were not armored a dart there and the spartan is dead.
I think the show needs to take fighting strategy into effect as well as the actual design of the weapons.
including the Kusarigama which is DESIGNED TO WRAP AROUND SHEILDS AND STRIKE WHO IS HOLDING THEM
I have studied the Ninja weapons for almost twenty years I am really not impressed with the results as they do not take into effect the accuracy of the blowgun or th style of fighting of the Ninja, They fully admit that the Spartan moves forward not retreating while not acknowledging that a Ninja trains to fight off lines he does not go head on he evades at an angle and strikes from behind his opponent always putting himself into a positional advantage.
Bottom line it was not a realstic portrayl of the Ninja and the weapons he uses or the manner in which he uses them.

I kinda see this battle as a fight between shotguns and sniper rifles. It is easy to imagine which warrior is which. Both are good in their own right but will always depend on situation and individual.

hmm.. i have to disgree with the spartans fighting style. spartans always fight using the phalanx, and according to history becuase of the phalanx is how it made the spartans such great warriors. The phalanx did its job head-on but flanks and rear is very vulnerable. lighter and flexible troops are the phalanx's weakness. fighting one on one with a spartan is just the same as a viking with a brain. I was also every surprise that the ninja egg landed 0 hits which is impossible of a 1000 fight simluations. Im sure a ninja eggs would hit u quite often in a battle. The battle at the end was very badly portrayed.

The ninjas were used to fighting Samurais, a great warrior in their own right, but a Samurai is not a SPARTAN. The Samurai has no shield and regardless what the guy in the episode says, Samurais wore lamelar armor, with some steel plates in it but it basically wasnt any better than studded leather, or chain mail.
The Greek hoplite was an awesome warrior, a Spartan is a super hoplite.
The fight wasnt fair, Spartan vs a Legionary would be more of a fair fight, but Id still give it to the Spartan. Their strength is fighting in units (same with the legionary), as one. You would never see a Spartan alone.
Were talking about a people who were bred to fight, and live off the land. Id put the Spartans up against any warrior up till about 800AD and still come out victorious. It took Greeks fighting with the same weapons and better tactics to finally bring them down as an effective fighting force in the ancient world. Military strategist today study Spartan fighting styles and culture for a reason, it was the mentality, honor, glory, obedience, and bravery where the spartan shines.
The episode was right about the shield, that was the deciding factor in the fight, 45G's? Are you kidding me? Fighter pilots dont encounter that much G-force. If the ninja could have got past the shield then id give it to him hands down, but the shield was strapped to the Spartans arm.
Spartans are the greatest warriors in history, period.

The Black Egg has zero kills because the egg can't kill you...it sets up kills. Most likely the majority of kills by the Ninjato were set up by the Black Egg. The only way you're going to get a kill with the Black Egg is if you put posion in them and then the Spartan decided to eat it.

i agree with zaty and would to say why did the show not calculate the ninjas ninjutsu. It should have been an easy kill considering taht a ninja has had a spartans training if you look it up it turns out to be that a ninja has 18 disciplines to master while the spartan only knew to use a spear and sword which hello are two of the 18 disciplines. and also if they were to do it again with the 18 disciplines into play on the computer the ninja would win especially cause of the ability to disarm his opponents im serious look it up

This is a really stupid comparison. Why would you compare an assassin who fled pitched battle to a heavily armed and armored infantryman?
It should have gone Ninja vs Apache, Samurai vs Knight and Spartan Vs Viking. That way, they'd at least be making valid comparisons. If things keep going the way they are, the next episode will be Randy Couture Vs Brett Favre.

The black egg had 0 kills because it measures off of what weapon actually delivers the killing blow.
Black eggs weren't designed to deliver a killing blow, but to set the ninja up for it.
Not to mention every throw with it doesn't absolutely guarantee the glass will get in the eye. I think you're just giving the egg WAY too much credit and you were just building up hype.
Though Spartans were legendary for their Phalanx fighting style, ninja were also NOT strictly lone assassins. They more likely than not traveled in at least pairs. For the most part the ninja had sneaky tactics and were used to fighting opponents that did not have shields or the physical durability or strength of Spartans.
I do believe that the big factor that caused the Spartan to win was the fact they had that specific Shield in their arsenal, and they could use it effectively for offensive and defensive situations. If it weren't for the shield then the Spartan would have definately been dominated in most forms of combat.
All of that stuff aside, I think that "Spartan Vs. Gladiator" and "Ninja Vs. Apache" would have been better match ups. They had closer fighting styles to eachother, so that would have been interesting to see 2 types of fighters that lived for killing, and 2 quick and stealthy fighters go at it.
