This show can show me how to survive! What kind of retarted channel are you if your gonna take away a show that will show us HOW to save our lives during this type of disaster! Every disaster needs someone who can show you how to survive it. Now, if theres another disaster that isn't mentioned in this series, were all gonna die! Thanks a lot Spike!

P.S. If you agree with me, plus 1.

I get enough of "forced" commercials on DVDs. Who agrees with me that these types of commercials should be banned from websites or the option of fast forwarding them.

As far as selecting a vehicle to hotwire goes, try to select an older vehicle with less electronic crap (engine control computer), and with a manual transmission, manuals don't need to have the transaxle "unlocked" and can be pop-started (push downhill with clutch in, select second gear, and release the clutch)

you should also carry a decent cutting tool, a lighter, a flashlight, and a multitool on you at all times, these four tools would be far more useful in a disaster than a sodding cell phone (and yes, I do happen to own a smartphone myself), however, in a NBC attack, if I was forced to leave one tool behind, bye bye cellphone, having the ability to make light, fire, cut, and make small improvised repairs are more important than having the ability to call for "help"

As long as I'm wearing pants, I have the following on me; butane lighter, Spyderco pocketknife, Leatherman multitool, and a high-power LED pocket flashlight that runs on a single AA battery

Overall I thought this was excellent! Prior to this I had never considered sheltering in place. After doing a little research (after seeing this video) all nuclear bombs have a half life of 7 hours. With that said,If you can shelter for 7 half lifes, ie 49 hours after the blast, you will be in good shape. Most survival kits are set up for 3 days, 72 hours, IMO is a good idea.

It's my understanding that metal can shield electronics from an EMP. I don't know what kind of metal, probably steel.

The best way to protect your car is to attach a chain or steel cable to the chassis while it¿s parked - let the chain or cable drape on the ground (don¿t try this while the car is moving!). The ground connection will shunt the EMP away from your car's electronics. This only works because your car is a metal shell (a large faraday cage) that just needs a good ground to shunt the pulse. It¿s won¿t work with a Corvette!

The battery may fry if it¿s exposed to a large pulse - but it¿s the delicate solid state circuits that burn out instantly, and first, from an EMP. The hair width wires just melt.

Older cars (very old - look for antique license plates) without solid state ignitions have a better chance of surviving but you can kiss your cell phone goodbye! Communication will be restricted to hard wired land lines (non-PBX) and restricted to government calls to the 710 area code (with ID card).

EM Pulse might not fry the electronics if the car is off, but surely the battery would be toast.

I think I'd get more of my info from places other than wiki if I were you >.< Terrorists are most likely the reason for a disaster like this at the current point in time, but you must also take into consideration other countries. People who come on here and complain are relying to much on a 1 hour tv show to explain to them every aspect of a disaster... if you want hardcore facts on every possible event you should do the extensive research :P (and don't use wiki to do it)

where would a guy find enough enriched eranium to make that big of a bomb.
And it probably wouldnt look like a propane tank? From wikipedia, you need to compress it alot to set it off. A propane tank cant hold that?
The em pulse would kill parked cars too?

wouldnt a dirty bomb be far more likely, where a regular bomb releases radioactive waste.

And the flare thing- If you made that beforehand, say months ago, would the cold pack chems have evaporated already?

And which part of the cold pack. Out side bag or inside?

I have taken the CBRN survival and first responder course and this presentation is absolutely something that should accompany the course... This presentation gives credence to having the 72 hour survival kit handy...
