Couple of things I found interesting. First, to not have Demon Souls in the Best Game for PS3 classification is ridiculous. Its debatable whether its the #1 PS3 game certainly (it gets my vote anyway), but it is not debatable that it should at least be in the top 4! And across all platforms, this game would win the award for best innovations and original concepts if such an award existed.
Secondly, kudos to Uncharted 2. This was probably the least-hyped game amongst the top-10 best sellers of '09, and while this game may not be the #1 game technically speaking for eye-popping graphics, explosions, etc (though its still very good), it was definitely the game that drew me in the most into its world. The attention to detail in every aspect, storyline, characters, dynamic & challenging scenarios, problem solving challenges, and so many others made this definitely the best well-made game in my opinion, and was probably highest in the all important Kick-Ass-Fun-To-Play category. Gives me hope that games will continue to be made with quality all around, and not just rely on great graphics.

EVERY ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE RED RING OF DEATH, please consider the following. First before you put you xbox 360 on a horisontal angel it over heats that way. 2nd get a small fan and put it beside your xbox. Also MW2 is beast and i have never played uncharted 2 so i would not know. MW2 is the best game ever and how did L4D2 beat it, that game is just campaing. I have a feeling that the choices made in this had a large impact from sales and im really glad MW2 didn't win. If it did there would be no hope for the game industry, due to it's mass amount of incredibly stupid glitch's such as super overpowering javelin death, hidden in a rock and your bullets can't hit me but mine can hit you and much more. IW game programmers don't check their games well. Also Demon's Souls should so be nominated it was truly a fantastic darkhorse this year that came out of nowhere with truly amazing originallity and with a great new way of using online capabilities with the PS3.

The day games are considered to be only great because of sales would be the day I lose all the little respect I still have left for the gaming awards industry.
So what, MW2 sold an astronomical amount on its first day? That doesn¿t make it any better than the other games listed for GOTY, it just mean it's marketable and I applaud Infinity Ward for that.
As for the ongoing feud between Xbox and PS3 fans, honestly people, is the console that precious to you that you feel compelled to fight for its honor, online of all places? Do you lack human contact that much?
It makes no sense and frankly it just makes you look childish, flame me all you want, I expect no less from you all.
But, well done to Uncharted 2, it¿s an amazing game.

Realy! Left for dead two is up there! Mw2 should so be in its place. I agree that uncharted 2 should defenetly be first IN STORIE MODE! its multiplayer sucks! But modern warfare 2... thats a whole diffrent storie. Its online mode is AAAAWWWWSSSSOOOMMMEEE!!!

Well mathslege, i would like to know how 360 has better Quality. I have both 360 and ps3 and i think the Ps3 is better cause of all the reasons CHEESE911 listed espeichally the free online and no red ring of deth. I got the ps3 whaen it was used and it hasent broken down ONCE! but the 360 has broken down multiple times. Go all the way down to what CHEESE911 said and look at all the reasons the ps3 is better. P.S. I think uncharted should be #1 (like it is) and mw2 should defenetly be #2 cause left for dead sucks and it has horible graphics( like the nintendo 64) (sorta kidding but stlll) P.P.S I know i spelled many things wrong but i was in a hurry. Can we actually stop arguing? Are you guys so arrogant that you have to convince everybody that this console or this game is the best? Yes spike has been handing out awards to most of the sequels but it doesn't matter whether mw2 won or uncharted2 bla bla bla. I myself think ps3 is making more creative and unique gaming and i don't even own a ps3! My friend enjoys a good game with a good storyline but hey, everybody's different! I myself own a 360 and love the games cause I'm a shoot em up kinda gamer. If you want better quality and cooler games go for ps3. If you want fun, strategic online games with friends, get a 360! I just got borderlands,mw2, and l42 and i think they are all fun. I like borderlands cause its kinda like fo3 but with friends. Free roam and what not. my 360 elite has broken down 2 times but i got a permanent fix. So both are good consoles with their unique own design and game play. Both are good, just depends what type of gamer YOU are.

Assassins Creed2, L4d2, Batman Arkham asylum and other games deserve goty the cod of duty games now just suck cause all it is oh look i killed someone what joy there is no point in those games because those games may not of been as popular as modernwarefare2 but they are different in what you do and have a different storyline i bought modernwarefare2 after a week of playing it I got so bored that i sold the game. its horrible they need to redo the series cause it is just so boring now cause it began with world war 2 now they jump to todays war they should of done it over the korean or vietnam war instead. cause I know ppl would of loved a cod game like that.

best RPG game is Resident Evil Series & Metal Gear Series..why? cause it has a good story and not boring game.. Ive started playing RE & MG from PS1..I like that zombie thing, Claire Redfield and his brother Chris Redfield..Chris Redfield appear in Resident Evil 5, RE5 is a story bout partner and trust all the series of the game have a twist..i didnt know that Jill Valentine is a partner of Chris Redfield..Sheva Alomar is the partner of Chris Redfield in RE5..They are both member of S.T.A.R.S. Also @kingMario if you understood the halo story line you would understand why master chief isnt in freaking ODST. throwing out a hint "orbital drop shock trooper" ODST master chief isnt a ODST. Read the Halo books about the flood and so on an you will understand everything. Thats sad that i know this because i quit playing halo 2 years ago and went to call of duty only

I think modern warfare 2 should have won because of its online game play. Plus spec ops it pretty fun.
Also the only reason why people say ps3 is better is because there poor and cants afford like $5 a month for xbox live its 10x better than ps3. Are you a retard? The reason there's 3 Playstations and only 2 Xboxs is because Xbox never made a console while the first Playstation was out, it was purely Sony and Nintendo. The first Xbox came out during the next generation when the PS2 and Gamecube came out. The only reason Sony have made more consoles is to keep up with the generations and new gaming features. Xbox just came in and copied everyone else and suddenly people like you are saying that the Playstation is the one trying to keep up with Microsoft?
Anyway, I think this is a fair result, I've played all of these games and Uncharted 2 is indeed the best game by quite a margin. The graphics are absolutely stunning and the gameplay is fun and addicting. heres some one else- the ps3 uses a CPU called the broadband engine it has 8 cores that run at 3.2HGz each. 6 for the games,1 is for the OS and secerity and the 8th isnt used.
360-uses a triple core that run at 3.2 GHz (same as the ps3) the ps3 has 7 cores and the 360 only has 3. making the ps3 a more powerful game engine than the 360. i got this info from a vid on youtube from joshes088008.1 reply Reply Flag comment as inappropriate

oh plz COD MW2 fans, ive been a COD fan since the first in 2003! MW2 sucked compared to the original COD games, i bought and traded it in 5 days later for L4D2, the campaign sucked and the multiplayer had nothing that new or interesting! uncharted 2, assassin's creed 2, killzone 2, borderlands, left 4 dead 2, and infamous were best games of 2009 and probably some of the best in the universe!

i have played all these games i reckon they have made the right choice i had to say i reckon boderlands should be in it instead of mw2 that was the worst game ever a i hour campaign does not win goty i finished that the first day i got it and i havent touch it since it was so over rated and uncharted 2 was the greatest game i have ever played it was awesome and i finally think ps3 are doing a good job with games now and they have been the best console for me i havent been into xbox even though i have one the only good game i reckon they have is left 4 dead they are awesome but all the rest are over rated

well this is how i look at it ...im into pc gameing..plus i have my self a xbox 360,ps3,nintendo wii...
if were gonna go by wich consoul sells the most pufff wii would win by far...
i play alot of pc games ..but when ever i wanna play online without a pc i use my xbox 360,when ever i wanna just play a game like u2 i use my ps3, and when ever i wanna have familly fun with my kids wife and parents i use my wii..

[b]U2 is a great game[/b] - i honestly do agree, but it shouldn't be nomineed for GotY at all.
I'm still seeing this as precedent of 'single-platform game GotY' (the most over-PR'd one, by the way...) - and that's [b]just not right[/b].
It all seems to be the results of Sony's politics to own and, in exchange, support developers. And while giving a credits to [i]some[/i] of the results (like U2 of course), it's still a very cruel thing by any means - to make games become an exclusives, that no one else except your loyal serv... uh! [b]byers[/b] wouldn't ever enjoy.

wow news 4 ya ppl ITS ALL BOUT INDIVIDUAL TASTE god get a life, like i prefer the xbox but my friend likes the ps3 better. not to mention that i have them both AND their hooked up to my 42 inch high def TV AND my xbox that i have had for over two years or so now has not ONCE gotten the red ring of death NOR has it ever failed on me. the xbox has some really good xbox exclusive games on it, but so does the ps3, now bout GOTY. I think that uncharted 2 rightfully won because ive played them both and MW2 absolutely deserved the awards it got and it deserved to be nominated but alot of ppl just like the COD series but that dont mean its the best. And it doesnt matter about consoles or being a console specific game its about which game is better and u ppl seem to have lost that idea. Uncharted 2 was just a good game with great gameplay, a great story, and other awesome things, and while MW2 has good game play BUT its practically the same as every other shooter out there except its a bit more realistic in some areas! Uncharted two is just all around a better game. THATS what is importantnot what is more popular or what console is better. Each person has their own tastes in consoles anyway so get a liife and stop bickering like 4 yr olds about what console is better when chances are youve probably barely seen what the other console has to offer!

I started to read the comments about this award to see what people had to say on the actual games since I haven't got time to play most of them yet.... and wasn't surprised to see, ounce more, yet again, some Xbox vs Playstation ranting.
Whatever your preferred console is, you should be glad that other ones from different companies are also doing well. This way theses companies have to compete against each other, trying to make their own console better, pushing for more interesting/awesome games from developers and at the same time trying to keep pricing low enough for us to buy.
I highly doubt a monopole from any gaming company would be a good thing for gamers. And anyway, I highly doubt that either Microsoft ($61 billions revenues in 2009) or Sony ($77 billions) will go bankrupt any time soon.
So just be happy that you like your console and that another one is making sure your company can't slack off on the quality they offer.

But it this way, I haven't seen an actual rating of the Xbox 360 and a Playstation 3. But if Sony had to make 3 Playstations, that means that they suck. If they couldn't sell that many Playstations 2 that ended with them making a new one, than that means they can't make consoles.
Microsoft only needed to make 2 versions of the Xbox ( The Original ,and the Xbox 360). So far, Xbox 360 if better than the original,.
BUT, i'm not saying that I like the Xbox 360 either. I think that it sucks too because they didn't win any tawards and because Bungie and Microsoft didn't put Master Chief in Halo ODST! That was an EPIC FAIL.
* And guees what? There was a very believeable rumor, that there was going to be a Xbox 720. I call it BULLSHIT. But there is an actually awsome pic of what the most likely image of would be.

Completely deserved. MW2 is just another shooter, as much as I love it. Modern Warfare 2 may be more fun to play for some people (online only, really) but Uncharted 2 is a much better game.

Its retarded to think that the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 or any game better than other one just for volume sales, thats STUPID, toyota sell more cars than Ferrari or Porsche, but if i tell you, "here pick one" you obviously are going to pick the Ferrari or the Porsche unless u r gay. Now if you have to pay for it and you can only afford the Toyota and you are going to hate on the Porsche owner, thats different. You obviously are going to look for arguments, like "its more environment friendly, better MPG, we sell millions of it, blah blah blah" Well my porsche smokes your toyota in less than 4 seconds, hows that??? Now even Xbox owners can afford a PS3 its only 299, u dont have to pay for a wireless adapter, or to play online, and you get a Blueray player, 120GB, u can even connect your IPOD and listen to your music... PS3 its considere a MEDIA HUB not just a Console anymore... Now go write your letter to santa and ask him for a PS3

Uncharted 2 clearly deserved this award. I hate that people seem to have forgotten what games are all about. MW2 should not have gotten GOTY. I have the game. have played it, have even watched one of my bros play it and the entire time all I could see out of the whole thing was shoot shoot shoot. The story was sorely weak compared to the first MW. Yes MW2 sold a lot BUT a lot of that had to do with the name. CoD is a good franchise many ppl had anticipated MW2 to be just as amazing as the first one but out of all those many sales there was in fact much disappointment. Same case with Tekken 6 which i also own. MW2 received and every bit deserved best shooter. To be GOTY that game does NOT and CANNOT excel in one category which is exactly what MW2 did. The game MUST do well mind you not perfectly but well in more category's than most other games. UC2's online is no where near perfect but it gets a check mark for being good and enjoyable. I've always thought of online as an extra feature anyways and not the actual game. but for MW2 it felt completely flipped. I believed I payed for online than the actual game itself. If you tell me that you don't care for a game's story than i must say that is very sad. you must be a new gen "gamer" or something. Almost all of the old school games are based on a story not online play due to the fact that it wasn't available back then. And what exactly do you think is the guideline for what a game should be? Old school games of course. Games that came before all of these. UC2 has just set the bar higher. Online has nothing to do with the game. it's just what you and your friends and others do in the game online. oh and i'm thinking that many of you voted MW2 because it is your type of game. Many people play FPS games these days but I'm thinking it has a lot to do with hype and the type of game you like instead of actually looking at what makes it a game in the first place and then looking at what makes it a great game. What are all you dumbasses talking about? U2 wasnt nearly as good as MW2, on Xbox or PS3. i dont think that there is a person in the gaming world that hasnt played that game. it made gaming history. it is easily the best of the year, and maybe all time. its not about Xbox or Ps3, its about Call of Duty.

Wow VGA, and this is why you have no merit yet, last year Grand Theft Auto, now Uncharted 2? You got my email now, if you want some advice on what will win, predictions are in, and overall leader will probably be Borderlands.
Borderlands sold more than Uncharted 2. It's on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3
Its the greatest thing that has happened to gaming this year
Sequels don't typically get a GOTY victory unless they change the industry with innovation (Halo 2)
