It's official. Kimbo Slice will be competing on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.
When it was first announced that the folks at Elite XC, Slice's former employers, would be joining the millions of Americans lined up at the unemployment bureau, the inevitable discussion began about Kimbo signing on with the UFC.
Dana White promptly squashed any such rumors by bluntly stating the only way Kimbo Slice would ever make it into the UFC would be by trying out for The Ultimate Fighter. Well, Kimbo has humbly accepted the challenge and White, a man of his word, has made good on the promise.
Since first billing himself as a legitimate contender, Kimbo has been the focus of countless internet debates, media coverage, and household discussions. His menacing disposition made him an instant draw, but there was widespread doubt on the legitimacy of his fighting creds, which were mostly accrued on internet street fights. Many fans were disgusted at the speed of which he was shot into stardom, others saw him on YouTube and were believers, and millions more just loved to watch heavy-handed street fighter with a crazy beard and gold teeth knock people out.
Set to debut on September 16th at 10 p.m., the discussion may finally be put to rest when Kimbo becomes just another cast member trying to make it in the big time. He'll be locked away with 15 other fighters and will be forced to prove once and for all whether or not he can make it as true mixed martial artist.
