The Top 10 Teams with the Most Annoying Fans

We've all seen them before. The shirtless fat guy that smells like hot dogs and gambling losses. The nerdy college kid who brings up field goal percentages of his favorite players at dinner parties. The group of frat guys that try to start fights at family restaurants when their favorite teams games aren't on the Applebee's television. Annoying fans are all over the country, but it seems like some teams have a more dedicated base of douchebags than others. Take a look at the ten worst offenders...

10. Oakland Raiders

Is there anything more intimidating than a 43-year-old middle manager with Type 2 diabetes, black facepaint, and children who refer to him as “that guy who used to be married to my Mom?” Forget the world of sports, Raiders fans may actually be the least threatening and most depressing people on the planet. It honestly seems like they'd be better served spending Sundays at some sort of self-help group than watching semi-professional football in a stadium clouded with the stench of failure and stale popcorn. "Raider Nation" likes to claim that Oakland Coliseum is the most frightening place in the world to play, yet pretty much every visiting team walks away with a win. The only people losing anything outside of the Oakland locker room are the 19 a-holes who showed up drunk to their fantasy football league and accidentally took JaMarcus Russell in the 42nd round. If that fleshy pile of bones in a white track suit that sits in Al Davis’ old seat could see what this franchise has become, he’d be rolling over in his hyperbaric chamber.

9. Montreal Canadiens

Imagine the most annoying French person you’ve ever met…Now picture 18,250 or so of them together under one roof, and you might get a vague idea of what the Canadiens’ fan base is all about. Years ago, Montreal fans decided that instead of supporting their team or bathing on a regular basis, they would prefer to torment their best players and effectively eliminate themselves from Stanley Cup contention every year. They made Patrice Brisebois, a homegrown blueliner who won community service awards, leave town in tears and recently decided the best way to foster their young, superstar goaltender (Carey Price) was to boo him relentlessly to the point where he looked like he was going to have a mental breakdown during the post-series handshake. There was even a prop bet in Vegas about how Price was going to kill himself after the game. Way to shatter your one young prospect’s confidence for years to come. Salut!

8. Duke Blue Devils Basketball

image

Source: Kevin Cox/Getty Images Sport/Getty Images

Every Friday night, just before Dick Vitale pleasures Mike Krzyzewski under the scorers table, a collection of nerdy Duke students pitch tents outside Cameron Indoor Stadium and stay up all night playing board games while waiting in line to watch their team make yet another glorious run to the second round of the NCAA tournament. They put on full blue body paint, jump around like a bunch of meth addicts for three hours, and then wonder why the school’s virginity rate is right on par with their field goal percentage. The average Duke fan is like that kid in elementary school with a collared shirt and pleated slacks who asks the teacher if she forgot to assign homework, while his Mommy tells him that “people are just jealous of how unique and talented you are” when nobody comes to his birthday party at the Planetarium.

7. English Soccer Fans

image

Source: Adrian Dennis/Getty Images Sport/Getty Images

British hooligans may be higher on this list, if not for fear of retaliation. In 1985, Liverpool followers killed 39 opposing fans at a Juventus match in an event that their supporters called “a disappointing loss where some people happened to get murdered.” English football fanatics are everything the Oakland Raider fans wish they were, yet lose some points for being the only group that openly lists a murder rate on their game day programs with goals scored and dives taken.

6. Dallas Cowboys

image

Source: Scott Boehm/Getty Images Sport/Getty Images

This is a group of people who blindly follow Jerry Jones, a self-entitled billionaire who lists Satan as his medical emergency contact and just spent taxpayer dollars to build a $1.2 billion football stadium/middle finger to every unemployed oil worker in the state of Texas (but it has a pretty kick-ass scoreboard that usually doesn’t get in the way of punts). Whether they’re educated professionals, unemployed hicks, or that awkward guy in HR who wears ass-less chaps to happy hour – the one thing you can always count on with Cowboys fans is the way they share their views like they’re going out of style (which given their Texas roots, usually are.) “Emmitt Smith is the greatest running back of all-time,” “Tony Romo probably didn’t get syphilis from Jessica Simpson,” or “Screw you – my wife would have to gain at least 12 pounds to play offensive line for the Steelers.” It almost seems like the only thing they enjoy more than throwing out the phrase “Everything’s bigger in Texas” to any girl they’re willing to show their 1996 Divisional Champion t-shirt to, is bringing the Cowboys into everyday conversation.

I’ve actually been in meetings before where a Cowboys fan, with a straight face, tried to use Troy Aikman’s broadcasting career as a metaphor for rejuvenated sales numbers, yet I was the one who got written up by the ass-less chap wearing HR guy when I called him the most useless person to every work at a Dairy Queen. Let that be a lesson - they're not just annoying. Cowboys fans are everywhere.

    2. Ohio State Buckeyes

    1. Dallas Cowboys

Lakers just because they love kobe who is a rapicst, Ohio because they think there team is the greatest yet got blown up in two straight national championships and still thought they were the better team. You guys shout O-H-I-O because your dumb. yes every team has a chant but atleast other chants make sense. Your just spellin your state. Wow awesome. YankeesAreAnnoying - Why did whoever wrote this leave the Yankees fans off their list? Because they are a pathtically blatant homer, that is why. That's the reason Red Sox fans make the list but Yankees fans don't, why OSU fans make the list but Michigan fans don't, and why Eagles fans make the list but Steelers fans don't. This tool is a fan of certain teams, and thought this article was a clever way to bash "his" team's rivals.

HAHA did you mean the three skanks with VD who came down and had to be bailed out of jail by the end of the game? Try being less of a blowhard, hypocritical douchebag. And then work on beating 1-AA teams.

You know who rights these things folks who don't know the traditions of Big Ten football. You would swear they think football belongs to them, no it belongs to us Ohio fans, we invented football in Ohio, some of the greatest coaches to ever coach come from Ohio and can anyone say where the Football Hall of Fame is wait yeah Ohio. I say all Ohians sue the NFL for back money for using a game that was invented in our state.

Personally, I think the whining about Cub fans gets pretty old.

I'm a Cubs fan because as a little boy my mom would turn WGN on Sunday afternoons and we'd watch Ryne Sandberg play amazing baseball. I learned that baseball is a lot like life, you have to have some skill, but you also have to be a little bit lucky. You want to carpet bomb an entire nation of Cub fans because the team can't get their act together and we b**** about it, fine. I think it's pretty common for people to b**** about their team when they do poorly, though, so whatever.

How Leafs Nation didn't make this list is beyond me. They're far worse than either Habs or Canucks fans and they're easily the most hated fans in Canada. Considering they haven't had a team worth cheering for in 42 years their wealth of arrogance is quite astonishing. It's bad enough that they are ignorant of anything outside of Toronto but to make matters worse, most of them don't even know squat about their own team. The Leafs seem to pride themselves on their lack of skill, charisma, style or character and their fans eat it up. Sportsmanship is not in their vocabulary. They blindly spend their cash on whatever the ownership sells them and although the team on the ice is going nowhere, without even a blush they claim to be Canada's team. Ha! Total zeros.

FOR REAL!!!!!! this must have been written by a White Sox fan. Cubs fans come back every year no matter how bad the team does, they don't bitch and moan. And the curse is only brought up by sportscasters and announcers during rain delays. The Chicago White Sox deserve the #1 spot here....up until 2005 there were no sox fans, they had to give away tickets on pop cans to fill the seats. Then all the BANDWAGON JUMPERS came along when they made the playoffs. Now 2005 is the only year that exisits to them. Try and talk to a white sox fan about the current season and it they always say the same thing "well we won the world series in 05, durr."

Why do people continually think the die-hard Cubs fans are eternal optimists? You're obviously subscribing to the national media and ESPN perspective, because if you turn on a Chicago sports radio station you'll hear a constant bitch fest about the Cubs woes. I don't know any Cubs fan who use the motto of 'this is our year'. Over the last decade Cubs fans have become insanely critical and are well known for booing players and their team quite often.

How can you not put the Yankees fans on this list????? We took a poll on a website and the Yankees are the most annoyig, arrogant, self centered egotistical bungholes you have ever ran across. They think there stuff does not stink and all baseball clubs need to bow down to them. well they can kis my ( * ). As for some of the others on the list...yo need to go nd re-evaluate......suggestions...dont spew your opinion if you cant back it up. How are these all facts? Hodid you come to the conclusion? is this a one person poll or done by multiple pople? was this done in NEW YORK or was this done throughout the country side......in short..I dont believe this and as for now...all I hear is "Blah, Blah. Blah", coming out of our mouth and nothing else.

    Good list. Some random thoughts:

    1. As evidenced by some of the posters above, Ohio State fans deserve to be near the top of this list. They are most insufferable, immature, classless, and stupid fans out there.

    2. What is it with fans in Boston? If a talk show host make an objective critique of any of their teams, you can be assured that the phone lines will light up will calls from the Northeast demanding an apology.

    3. Yes, freakin' Cowboy fans do seem to be everywhere.

As a diehard buckey fan, they should be number two alright, as the most loyal and dedicated fans period. The chant O-H-I-O has been around for ever and will never go away thank god. A michigan puke had to have something to do with the buckeyes making this list as usual. My entire family are dedicated buckeye fans and to get together and watch a game is something special to us. The O-H-I-O chant is yelled every game and we love it. If you have ever been to a game with 105,000 loyalfans comming together as one gives you chills when your there. They may have had bad luck in the BCS games but at least they can say they were there to start with. And as far as the sweater goes Tressel is one of the best coaches in the game without question. So don't hate, appericate the loyalty of the BUCKEYE fan!!!!

I am a Buckeye's fan...I will chant OH-IO loudly! I will continue to cheer on my Buckeyes (face painted scarlet and grey) and stand behind my "geek in the sweater vest" as you have so called him! I saw Coach Tressell win at YSU!! AND have witnessed him win five Big Ten titles and one national title at Ohio State! Not to mention his 7-1 record against the liberals from up north! Geek or not...his record speaks for itself! Ohio State comes from long line of great athletes...Eddie George, Archie Griffin, a 2 time Heisman trophy winner, Troy Smith, Heisman Trophy winner, to name ONLY several. and an extended list of great coaches with winning records! It's hard not to get excited about some BUCKEYE FOOTBALL! You can trash talk, but that only fuels the fire for Buckeye fans! We are here to stay!

Of the top of my head...

1 .Not all Montreal Canadiens fans are French, most are French-Canadian or English speaking.

    2. Last season was Carey Prices 2nd playoff appearance.

    3. Yes Patrice Brisebois did get the wrath of many fans on the ice, but was well repsected. and how many other players have retired in tears??? The Canadiens organization did not offer him a contract when he became a free agent. For that matter, neither did 29 other teams in the NHL.

But I forgot that this is the network who's creative genius thought Striperella and Gary the Rat were shows capable of competing on a Thursday primetime slot.

    Ya! The Habs Rule!

WTF OSU is bad a** team we in the OH..IO LOVE our buckeyes and further more we are not some doumb a** redneck or some kid in grammer school. That cheer has been there sence the start of the 1900's its called tradition so why dont you all put that in your pipe and smoke. Oh and by the way true no OSU fan is trying to impress the tramp from up north in fact we are trying to tell them to close ther legs and get out of our state. We arnt annoying fans! were just fully supportive of our buckeyes, and agian you have to open your eyes and maby do alittle research and then you will know we are a state that loves football and the great coach's that can lead us to greatness thats why we love coach tressel. Yes we had some bad luck when we got there but hey guess what we got in a BCS Championship game, bet you cant say that for your team.

If both the Cubs and Red Sox are on this list, why not the White Sox. They have the same issues as the Cubs, except they won a series, then went back to sucking. Their fans are extremely sour-grapes about the whole thing, whiney and offensive.

Every team has some annoying fans.

Another wannabe writer takes cheap shots at cities/fans and he's obviously never been to any of these cities for any of these sporting events.

I live in Philly and have been an Eagle/Flyers season ticket holder for 20 years...so I'll just defend my city (again)
    * Eagles fans forgot about Santa 2 minutes after it happened...it's the hack media that won't let it go. Idiots like you that have never experienced an event in Philadelphia.
    * I also love how you claim the fans are unattractive, yet the picture clearly shows a pretty hot chick in the stands.
*We cheered when Irvin went down...but when we realized how serious it was we shut up. Then when he was carted off the field we stood and cheered.
    * Why don't you spend four years doing something only to come in ALMOST 1st place and tell me if it doesn't get under your skin.

You are an idiot and an obvious hack. Congratulations on making a list of stereotypes. It's no wonder you're blogging and not writing the big stories. If you ever want to experience and Eagle's game and it's fans for real...go fuck yourself. We don't want your kind here.

First of all, the article was written by a sports blogger who really should do something about his metrosexual hair. His biased commentary on why it is that us Cubs fans are the most annoying sports fans is obviously his personal opinion.

He clearly does not know or understand the definition of loyalty. Being a Cubs fan is not about making excuses; it is about loyalty. No Cubs' fan changes his/her mind about the Cubs midway through the season even if we are below .500. We stay true all year long.

Being a cubs fan is about the heartache we endure year after year. It is about the hope we have for the next season. It's about bleeding cubbie blue! I've talked many people who have visited Wrigley and they have told me about their great experience soaking in all the baseball history and hanging out in Wrigleyville. I am proud to say that I am a die-hard Cubs fan!

David, go back to your "mirror mirror on the wall" and continue to be "annoyed" with us Cubs fans because we are not going anywhere! Go Cubs!

the funniest part about this list is not the list itself, but the fact that all of this is coming from a rep of the station that has a show called MANswers...a top five contender for most obnoxious show in television history. pot calling the kettle black, much? The intro alone is enough to make me vomit.

    7. English Soccer Fans - I assume you are referring to the Heysel Stadium disaster when you reference 1985. You should, however, try doing a bit of research before you accuse Liverpool followers of killing 39 opposing fans. Ultimately, UEFA must share the blame as they outright refused to move the match out of a cleary unstructurally sound venue. Not only this, but those that died were killed in a mad rush of THEIR OWN FANS! The only reason anyone from Merseyside was charged was because the world demanded it and the lads charged had already been in hot water for hooliganism. Now that your revisionist history has been corrected, let's move on. To lump every English football fan in with these lads is just stupid, almost as stupid as this entire post.

Leafs = Worst hockey franchise ever with equally crappy fans to go with it.

Vancouver has been a hockey city since before the 1915 when they won the Stanley Cup (get your facts straight chump).

I have to say that its the media that plays up the Cubs curse and how Cubs fans give excusses. I have been a Cubs fan for my whole life and the only excuse they deserve is the fact that the team sucked. Its not a goat or bartmans fault. I dont care even about the stupid black cat either. The Media blows this whole curse thing out of perportion because they need a scape-goat. (no pun intended) The media is what makes Cubs fan percevided in a way that they are. Yes you have some fans that just go and get drunk at the games, but those arent fans and every team has them, they give them a bad name.

In regards to the Eagles fans.... they are not the ones talking about pelting Santa Claus w/ snowballs..... it's EVERY NON EAGLES FAN IDIOT that brings it up (the writer of this article, ESPN, etc....) Let it go people!

What people don't know (or just don't want to acknowledge) is that the "Santa Claus" was a drunken moron and not the real deal... so for all of you Santa believers out there........ Philadelphia fans want you to know.. the "real Santa" holds no ill will toward them!

I'm a part of the most pathetic fan base...Cleveland Browns. A Buffalo fan hit my Girl Friend at a game in the old Cleveland stadium back in the late 80's...they get my vote.

Sorry, guys, but English soccer fans should've been #1. I went to a game several years ago while in London for a wedding. Now, I'm a good ole boy, SEC footall fan, and have been slippin' flasks into games since I was a teenager. My idea of a rough crowd is frat boys pushing and shoving, and some good natured heckling.

Those people over there in England are insane, however. I made a few jokes about gays in shorts and thought they were literally going to kill me (it was a Chelsea game). People measure the game in lost teeth. Seriously.

I think Patriot Haters should be on this list. I'm a Steelers fan and get sick of all the hate and jealousy that get thrown the way of Brady and the Pats. People act like they grew up hating them. They have only been good for about 9 years. Get the hell over it. The people that scream about the air time that Brady gets are the same ones who LOOOOVE all the air time the Manning bro.s get. Especially that red neck retard Peyton.

i'm a leafs fan, and i completely agree with the above comments. we are hopeful, but yet arrogant. we believe we always have a chance at the stanley cup, even though we always have one of the worst teams in the league. i'm blaming it on the water.

I agree, Leafs fans far outweigh the ridiculous rosy optimism of the Canucks fans and the sheer rudeness of Montreal fans. Leafs fans continue to act superior and they have not had a decent team for years. Welcome to the Burke era - early playoff losses, poor drafting and even worse player development. The Leafs fans now at least have a GM who matches their arrogance.
