The Top 10 Cars for Douchebags

Long ago, auto makers realized that the way to stay ahead of the competition was to make different cars for different types of people. Now, no matter who you are, there’s a car out there that fits your scene--even if you're a douchebag.  Here are the top 10 cars for that special segment of our society.

10. Dodge Viper

image

Despite being the current king of the hill at the Nurburgring, the Viper’s true stomping grounds are more along lines of the Spearmint Rhino parking lot and the drunken 10mph crawl down the Sunset Strip on a Friday night.

It’s even more frightening when one of these guys attempts to actually drive a Viper. Without any sort of traction or stability control, the Viper is an unforgiving beast when you drop the hammer, and it doesn’t care how big a douche you are.

9. Chevy SSR

image

What the hell is this thing? I’m just at a loss for what sort of person would see this car, then see its $42,000 debut MSRP and think “now that is the car-truck thing for me!”

Beyond being woefully underpowered, overpriced, and ungainly upon its release, the whole concept of a “factory hotrod” gives you less street cred than pre-distressed designer jeans and a trucker cap.

Obviously, this car bombed out quickly. Now, the only the people who’re willing to buy these are the same people who rush straight from the dealership to Pep Boys for NASCAR floor mats to match their life-size Fathead wall decals.

8. Late Model V6 Mustang

image

Ok listen, if you’re a 20-something girl in college, I can give you a pass on this one. Even if you’re a post-menopausal secretary for a law firm, I’ll let that slide too.

But if you’re a grown man who goes out and buys a base model, 200hp V6 Mustang, and tries to pretend it’s a 500hp supercar by throwing factory-optioned stripes, scoops, and wings at it, I’m sorry, but you sir are a douchebag. You’re not fooling anyone. In fact, the people you’re trying to impress with your “muscle car” are the very same group of people laughing at you when you drive by.

7. Scion XB

image

Whoa, who wouldn’t want to drive a shoebox on roller skates?

I mean, it’s awesome that you found a shirt to match the bright orange piping on your seats just in time for the Jimmy Buffett concert, but the other XB owners are still a little disappointed in your lack of stick-on tribal decals and neon lights. This thing was basically custom designed for douchebags.

6. Mazda Miata

image

Have you ever seen a guy driving a Mazda Miata and thought, “man, I wish that was me!”? Neither have I.

Aside from the fact that this car screams “I’m fabulous!” from every angle, this car was made for the guy who wants to drive down the coast with his new scarf from Wal Mart flapping in the breeze. If you own a Miata you're one of three things: in the closest, a woman, or a douchebag.

This video pretty much says it all.

The Miata Song

5. Ford Excursion

image

This truck wrote itself into the douchebag hall of fame the moment it rolled off the assembly line.

This SUV is for the guy who saw the Tahoe and said, “nope, not big enough.” Then he saw the Hummer H2 and said, “nope, not big enough.”

Then he saw the Excursion, the largest SUV ever on the consumer market, and said to himself, “Well, my penis is pretty much the size of a button, but I guess this is gonna have to do. Yo, sales bro, do you know where I can find an 18-inch lift kit for this thing?”

Heck I'm still laughing. One thing though, while it may be said that the BMW owner is smug (I'm not one) the issue is trying to drive a car designed to be D-R-I-V-E-N vs the slush-box specials driven by the passive aggressive douchebags on American roadways. You know who you are, the ones that get in the left lane (read fast / passing lane on real roadways), drive "the speed limit" (-5) and refuse to pass and move right. Its enough to make a real driver cry.....oh to have a BMW on the autobahn....;-)

Wow, can't believe I have anything to add to these lists....

Now as a BMW driver here's what i can say about them.

Awesome DRIVING cars, we tailgate you because driving 40 mph is just annoying.

Growing up I had the same attitude towards them you do. I grew up on a steady diet of V8 american cars...Mustang GTs of the late 80s, early 90s, late 90s cobras, mid and late 90s F bodies, and late 90s C5 corvettes. All of them with mild to wild modifications. Sure they were fast, seriously built originally for 1/4 mile drags and later I expanded into SCCA type events and track days.

But now having owned a few 3 series, currently a 325 and an M3, and previously an M roadster I can say that these cars are something special. Any idiot can drive these cars fast, they handle unreal. Turns and Loops where I would be white knuckled in the camaro, trans am or vette just seem to roll through with the BMW. It's much more forgiving and much more precise. Plus it's screwed together well with a nice interior.

You forgot the biggest douschebags...mini vans and SUVs globally. Usually filled with inattentive drivers, with cupholders filled and a cell phone in hand paying zero attention to driving.

Just DRIVE your car, once you make driving an event, not just a means from A to B you'll appreciate a BMW (or for that fact newer audis (wifes A4), infinitis, and even mercedes has tightened the ride a bit and makes for a more entertaining drive).

Oh and about the miata, one of the truest sports cars out there. Light, nimble, great balance. Huge fun on a track...But I do say the vast majority are middle agers looking for a cheap convertible.

i love the mustang guy, you can even see he is in a rally of imports, anywhoo... the viper (srt-10 of course) is a remarkable car if you know how to drive it. getting past the traction of course, it is a nice toy for speed junkies and flashy for those that can't afford a $150k+ car

Maxima and Corvette belong on this list!!! As for the V6 Mustang, it's a great car, I drive one. 200hp is equal to the legendary 5.0 Mustang v8's of lore. with a 5 speed and a few mods it's a blast to drive. I know of V6 Mustangs running in the 11's with a turbo or a supercharger all while getting 26mpg and paying for V6 priced insurance. The writer is right abourt some of these cars but not the Mustang.... I bet he drives a Maxima!!!

That particular V6 mustang ran in many FFW drag racing events. That was a 12 second V6 putting its larger V8 brothers to shame. Just an FYI.

I was the original owner of the 2005 V6 Yellow Mustang. As Rygen pointed out I raced that car at a number of drag racing events, including FFW. The car also appeared in multiple magazines and I ran out of space to put all the trophies this car brought home. The car went 12.8 @ 107 MPH in the 1/4 mile... hmmm... seems the author of this blog forgot to mention that part! Wonder if the author can say the same thing about HIS car?

BTW, the author is illegally using my copyrighted image here. He never obtained my permission and simply stole the image from my website. If you have more interest in the car you can visit my site at: www.v6john.com

I think that the douchebag here is the writer. If you had any idea of cars you would understand the potential of the V6 Mustang. Here's a thought - learn something about the topic first. If had taken the time to read about the V6 Mustang you stole the image of from his website and then posted you would have known that it was not simply a base V6 with a couple of scoops and stripes pasted on it.

hey AUTHOR you might wanna try researching your cars a little. The v6 does have 210 hp but most of the foxbody mustangs came with 195 or less. With my v6 mustang I have whipped several camaros, GT mustangs and other v8 powered cars at the drag strip. Just because you have had a run in with a ricer or 2 that had v6 stangs doesn't mean all v6 mustang owners have bad attitudes about reality and their car. By the way WHERE IS THE MAXIMA/ALTIMA. everyone I know that owns one of those acts like they are driving in the fast and furious movies.

Street racing in dangerous and ILLEGAL. Racing belongs on the track not on the street! Your Challenger, even with the Hemi is still only a 13 second car, while my v6 Mustang went 12.8. Edmunds tested the 2009 SRT with a manual tranny and were only able to run a 13.8! That's a full second slower! The 2008 automatic did better at 13.2. STILL SLOWER than the V6 Mustang!

Here is the Edmunds article: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=130809

And here is my 12.8 second timeslip: http://www.v6john.com/Main/Other/Lapeer_110506/test_and_tune.htm

    Where is your timeslip?

I ran a 14.9 completely stock other than a cold air intake and canned computer tune. I have not run the car at the track since the addition of a T-Lok (posi), 3.73/1 gears and wider stickier tires. There is a Centerforce clutch and headers sitting in the garage awaiting intallation. When my tax return check arrives the turbo kit will be purchased and installed as well. So, if you pull up next to a white 4.0 coupe with black stripes trimmed with red pins and deep dish chrome wheels in the Orlando area, you might want to pretend you don't notice it rather than rev the engine. Of couse it won't matter much,,,, if you jump without a warning I'll just reel you in and eat your lunch.

BTW, the Challenger is a nice car, It's a shame that it weighs so much though. Hennesy has a turbo kit that will take it from 425hp to 700hp but the kit costs as much as two V6 Mustangs.

I think we all know Edmund's numbers are categorically high. Check out C&D or Motor Trend and you'll see a bone stock srt8 is a 13.0-13.2 car. Even the R/T pulls low 13s totally stock. Check out Challenger sites (like challengertalk.com) for scanned slips if you're think I'm just making it up to save face.

I'm not here to get into a pissing match with you here. If you read the article you'll notice I'm referring more to poseurs who buy pony package v6 mustangs and pretend they have a muscle car. Obviously people who're modding them heavily don't really fall into that category.

U forgot anyone who buys an economy car like a COROLLA and dumps a ton of money on it. I hope you're kidding.

And to the V6ers- it's possible to make any car fast, but wouldn't it have been easier, and probably cheaper, to have just started with the V8?

As for the BMWs, there's no question they're good cars, but indeed most of them are driven arrogantly.

OH and where are the AWD G37s? I drove the RWD G37, and it rocked- it's not even in the same ballpark as the V8 Mustang, but for a fully-loaded car it was great (the numbers may not show the difference, but just drive 'em). The AWD SUCKED BALLS. I could feel understeer creeping in during LANE CHANGES. The omniscient salesperson said it was RWD most of the time, and only dumped power to the front when traction was an issue. BULLSHIT. It felt as RWD as a Focus.

Now, I hear the fanboys saying that it was based on the Skyline. True. Then they say the Skyline was AWD. WRONG. It had an AWD option, but every descent racing iteration was based on the RWD layout. If you want a decent performing car with all the goodies, get a RWD G37. If you want a car that works in the snow buy a fricken Mitsubishi or Subaru because the only people who buy AWD G37s are DOUCHEBAGS.

Well, for the list of the Douchebag Car Owners I think we've found #1.

    1. People who post comments about how sweet their cars are and how fast they run in response to an article that they obviously don't get the point of. These douchebags see an article about top 10 cars and immediately race to chime in about how their car is the best, all the while not understanding that if you either currently or in the past have owned one of the aforementioned cars you are most certainly a douchebag. (Exs. BMW owner who can't resist a chance to bash other cars on the list while neglecting to acknowledging they also owned multiple other cars on the list. Mustang owner who would be offended if they were able to accurately read the article. Any other commenter who doesn't understand that this an article about douches and not what your car runs in the quarter)
