Top Shelf Tuesday - October 20

It's Tuesday, and that means it's time for you to pony up some of your hard-earned bucks for some of the latest releases hitting shelves today.  But what to buy?  Luckily, Top Shelf Tuesday is here to help you navigate through the field of choices.

DVD

The Incredible Hulk comes out today in three versions: a single-disc DVD, a three-disc Special Edition DVD and a two-disc Blu-ray edition. The single-disc DVD features the movie and deleted scenes, which the other two editions include as well. The Special Edition DVD set and Blu-ray release also feature an alternate opening, a making-of featurette, behind the scenes featurettes on the visual effects behind Bruce Banner’s transformation into the Hulk, commentary with director Louis Leterrier and others. Features that only the Blu-ray release includes are U Control, which allows the viewer to take a look at animated storyboards and interviews without interrupting the movie; as well as Thunderbolt Files, which allows viewers to interact with the “top-secret” files of the special forces going after the Hulk, without exiting movie play.

The Strangers releases on DVD and Blu-ray. Both editions feature deleted scenes and “The Elements of Terror”: a making-of featurette that investigates the production of the movie, including a behind-the-scenes look at locations and sound effects. Features exclusive to the Blu-ray edition include “My Scenes Sharing”, which allows viewers to log their own favorite clips and share them with friends.

The diabolical duo of Jesse Hughes and Joshua Homme have officially returned and are set to release their latest Eagles of Death collaboration Heart On. With Heart On, the evil rock chums deliver yet another great American rock record filled with badass guitar riffs and fresh production sounds. Even though a lot of their songs sound similar, each track has its own unique personality. This record is an easy sell for anyone who wants to blast some fun-loving Southland rock n’ roll out of their classic muscle car.

Berlin is a concert film and live album by Lou Reed which was filmed over five nights at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY in December 2006. The Berlin tour was the first time Lou Reed had played the full album live in over 30 years, after the original album was a critical and commercial flop back in 1973. Stupid critics. The concert film and album also include three additional songs, “Candy Says,” “Rock Minuet” and “Sweet Jane,” which are not from the original Berlin LP. This record/DVD is a real treat for any big fans of the experimental rock legend.

This animalistic Far Cry FPS series gets its most recent update in the form of the not-so-cleverly named Far Cry 2.  With the last installment, Far Cry: Predator, being a somewhat underwhelming spruce-up of Instincts and Evolution, the buzz around Far Cry 2 is that the brand new storyline (you get to choose your side!) combined with new weapons and multiplayer features make it a worthwhile buy.

Space warrior wannabes unite! Dead Space is being released this week and it's being touted as a game-changing title in the survival horror genre.  You play Isaac Clarke, an engineer and darkly lucky survivor of a ravaged maintenance crew sent to a space-mining ship called Ishimura.  Isaac is nothing like the typical action hero – he’s an engineer and has to use his savvy to fight off the Necromorph scourge that has beset him and his crew.

What are you looking forward to picking up this week?
