The Top 10 Actresses Past Their Expiration Date

Some actresses age gracefully and seem to become more radiant over time. Other actresses are not so lucky. They hit their expiration date and go bad, and once they hit that point there’s no making the sour gallon of milk scrumptious again. These actresses keep getting cast in big movies, but it’s only a matter of time before Father Time catches up with them.

10. Nicole Kidman

image

Source: Junko Kimura/Getty Images

Kidman was one of the sexiest actresses around for a long, long time – she’s kept her shiny gloss for nigh on twenty years now. And she’s probably aged better than anyone else on this list, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t gone past her "Use By" date. Her face has begun to look like an evil bubble, those beady little eyes bearing down on whomever dares draw near.

It’s easy to see why Tom Cruise would have grown tired of this uptight Aussie getting up in his grill every night. And after the bomb that was Australia, I think it’s clear that audiences are not drawn to her in droves anymore (were they ever?). Kidman works best now as a villain or a mom. She and Keith Urban deserve each other.

9. Teri Hatcher

image

Source: Ethan Miller/Getty Images

Teri Hatcher first came to our attention in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and a classic episode of Seinfeld in the mid-'90s. And she was pretty darn hot. Skinny, large-breasted, big eyes, and an even bigger smile...there really wasn't much not to like about her. Sure, her acting chops were never anything to write home about, but dang if she didn't know how to stand around and look pretty.

Oh, how times change. Though she continues her television work in Desperate Housewives, her days of hotness have most definitely come to an end. She got the skinny thing down, but then she kept getting skinnier. And skinnier, and skinnier, and skinnier, until we couldn't even remember what it was we liked about her so much to begin with. She now looks like a scary mix between Michael Jackson and the mummy of King Tut. This is not what we want to be looking at having affairs with the pool boy and the next door neighbor.

Someone get this woman a cheeseburger on the double.

8. Drew Barrymore

image

Source: Nancy Ostertag/Getty Images

Okay, let’s be honest: Drew Barrymore was never really all that hot. In fact, hot was never the appropriate adjective for her. She was cute as a little kid in E.T. and sometimes adorable in her twenties, and now…well, now she’s just another talking chubby face attached to a chubby body that should know better than to be projected on a giant movie screen.

The tragedy is that at 34, Barrymore doesn’t even come close to being old. But there are only so many romantic comedies she can foul up with that Batman chin of hers and that I’m-so-adorable-and-don’t-even-know-it voice that shreds your ears like a cheese grater. Enough is enough. Someone do the right thing and get this woman in the plus-size section of a JCPenney catalogue, stat!

7. Helen Hunt

image

Source: Amy Graves/Getty Images

Helen Hunt was actually aging very gracefully for a while; she was lovelier with each successive film she starred in. The movies she chose weren’t always winners (What Women Want, Pay It Forward) but hell if she didn’t look good acting in them. In Castaway you really feel bad for Tom Hanks because of how bad fate screwed him over – he lost a damn fine woman!

And then along came anorexia. In the last film she starred in, Then She Found Me (also her directorial debut) she looked like an emaciated victim of malnutrition on the brink of death. The movie should have been called Then She Found My Skeleton Walking Around and Talking. Because that’s what it looked like was going on: a corpse had been reanimated and given some heartfelt lines to say. It was more than a bit frightening, and somewhat perplexing, that someone so intelligent would buy into the unattractive Hollywood fad of self-starvation.

6. Renee Zellweger

image

Source: Gail Oskin/Getty Images

Renee Zellweger has always walked the fine line between cute and hot, and usually fell on the side of cute. But these days she doesn’t fit in either. Her squinty-eyed circle of a face often seems like a pumpkin that’s been ham-handedly carved into a woman, and it’s not something most people care to spend too much time looking at.

It doesn’t help that she’s continually starring in stupid movies, or movies that she doesn’t really belong in. Leatherheads, Appaloosa, New in Town…none of these movies have done well and it doesn’t seem like an accident that she’s been the female lead in all three of them.

There was once a time when Zellweger’s cutesy, girl-next-door qualities were called for. And then the credits rolled at the end of Jerry Maguire.

A question for the author: would you ever be able to tell these women in person what you have written here? Just to walk up to a woman and say "You are now worthless because your face looks like a worn-in baseball glove"? Doesn't that seem like a terrible thing to do? Well it's terrible here too. Just think about it.

But even more offensive than the article itself is the comment made by paradiseal about the women who have commented on how this article is (obviously) degrading:
"Their emotional outbursts are hilarious, however - like a child stomping its feet"

Paradiseal--Do you really feel the need to compare me to a kid having a temper tantrum when I express my opinion? That's just a way of belittling me into something that's less threathening to you, and you should be aware that it kind of makes you look less-than-intelligent. When you shrug off someone's opinions as "emotional outbursts" rather than presenting a valid counterpoint (I expect you don't have one, please prove me wrong), you show every women out there just how insecure you are. Because trust me, we can tell--when you think you're the one laughing about how 'girly-angry' we are, we're actually the ones laughing (somewhat sympathetically) at how little you know.

    So please grow up.

What is wrong with you people? This is the most woman-hating bunch of ignorant crap I've seen in a longgg time. It's 2009. Most of these women are extremely talented. Too thin? Too "chubby"? Too old, not hot enough, not cute enough? What planet are you living on? Women have an expiration date? So, once they aren't fuckable they're done. Good luck with women buddy. Spike TV just hit an ALL TIME low.

    Great List someone said.

If you're a 15 year old spotty little asswipe that lets the dog lick his balls to get a hard on, or a fat bloke that hangs around burger vans hoping that someone will drop some bread so you can eat it off the floor it would be, but this is no represemtation of real mens thoughts.

But lets be honest, I'm preaching to thoise very people aren't I?

What can I say, this is our generation. We're given new movies, faces and bodies to ogle every day. Social networking/blogging sites inflate our opinions, then the gas is blown out and something like "Top 10 Actresses past their Expiration Date" is born. Here's what I've learned from the article and the comments:

Famous women depreciate like cars - if the most important part of car a was its paint job and upholstery.

"They get paid ridiculous salaries because of their looks; writing some critical commentary about their looks is fair game." - Nathan Bloch

The game Nathan is talking about is "The Price is Right". Not everyone plays fair though. If it was fair, the actresses in his article would all reimburse Nathan for each year they continued to age. The game is won when a woman's worth is $0!

Lastly, only buy young, good-looking milk. But for god's sake, drink it before it ages!

For goodness sakes, everyone ages....get over it and give women, ALL WOMEN, a break! Most women at any age would love to look like these actresses, even now they older, and have their success. This commentary represents nothing but hypocrisy and spite - one minute dishing it out at someone 'too skinny', then the next thing giving it to someone like Drew Barrymore, for being 'too fat', who is actually a healthy weight and not obese (- have you seen what she can do in her roller skating movie, that is not an unhealthy 'fat' person!!!!?)....No wonder there is a prevalence of eating disorders. You belong in the dark ages, where women were nothing but breeders and chattels to be looked at. Get with the times and show some respect to women. For while you may be thinking you are just attacking these actresses- you are attacking every single woman with your archaic attitudes about beauty and ageing.

    Dear Nathan Bloch,

Recently Australian men were voted the worst partners in the world. You're a prime example.

I moved here three years ago with my husband, and since have been completely shocked by how media portrays women and how mysogynistic a culture this is; cougars if you're over 35 even if you're married, judging women only by their looks.

Writing things like this goes to prove that Aussie men are deserving of their title as the world's worst lovers and partners. It'll catch up with you. By the way, your profile photo is obviously photoshop to hide your true identity as a dickhead and you write meaningless garbage for a living. Who are you to judge.

So their fifteen minutes of usefulness to you as the object of your erection is over? Gosh, I bet that really bothers them, and their fans. This list says nothing about them that a not-very-bright self-licking dog couldn't manage to notice ("they got older!"), and much about you, including but not limited to the depth of your engagement with the art of cinema. Please. Get a life.

1: This is an incredibly sexist list
2: Just because a woman doesn't conform to the stereotype that youth and anorexia equals beauty, doesn't mean she isn't gorgeous or that she can't be a great actress. Others have said it in previous comment, would a list of male actors who are older and therefore past their prime bring you as much humour/satisfaction?

    Yeah, but seriously Mr. Bloch.

Feminist critique aside...and I do agree partly with you in that actresses are paid for their looks, and in that women in this culture are valued for those looks only as long as they remain young, impossibly thin, surgically modified, airbrushed, photoshopped, and pore-free, while geriatric, balding, paunchy, liver-spotted men like Sean Connery and Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis continue to play leading men well past their due date with nary a peep from the likes of yourself.....

...the fact remains that your assessment of Drew Barrymore's "chubbiness" is patently untrue. The girl is about 5'1", weighs about 90 pounds in a fur coat, and takes up about as much space as someone's pinky finger. I have seen her in person. More than once. The reality that the camera adds 10-15 pounds to any actor, plus the fact that Ms. Barrymore actually has flesh on her cheekbones, is perhaps too much for your tiny, tiny mind to absorb, but there you have it.

I assume that 99% of your other observations would fall apart under real world scrutiny. So quit with the the "OMGFEMINIZUMZZZZ" bullcrap and admit that maaayyyyybbeeeeee this article is stupid for actually legitimate reasons, like girls you are calling fat are in fact teensy weensy toothpicks.

Expodryerase: you are basing your comments off a picture of me where I'm wearing a bandanna, that you found on Facebook -- in short, you are a troll who needs therapy. These actresses make their living off of being public commodities. They get paid ridiculous salaries because of their looks; writing some critical commentary about their looks is fair game. Rather than join a productive cause, you hide behind faux-feminism to espouse anger and hatred. Find a productive cause.

So much for being nice. I love how some impotent little man somewhere is desperately trying to bury any comment that looks like it was written by a woman.

Dude--putting quotation marks on something doesn't make your statement more valid. If you're quoting, include your sources. I'm guessing they're not terribly legitimate. But good job making sure your patronizing voice is heard.

The bottom line is that most women don't give a flying flick whether you're attracted to them or not. You have every right to entertain whatever thoughts you want in the darkness of your own mind. The problem is people who attach the worth of a human being to how much they personally want to have sex with them. I don't look like Megan Fox. I don't even look like Drew Barrymore. I don't care. I'm married to the only guy who matters. But for you, or anyone else, to insist that I'm worthless because I don't give you an erection? You can count on being called out on that until your voice is in the minority.

Your opinions about female neuroses have no bearing on the fact that the world would be a better place if half the population didn't have to fight tooth and nail for some basic dignity. You have every right to cling to your misogynist opinions until the day you die, and I have every right to trumpet from the rooftops that you're a douche.

"The female of the species is a master at absorbing herself in her own thoughts and neuroses and projecting them onto men. In the U.S., virtually all women are suffering from the unmentionable delusion that guys are just like them when it comes to sexual attraction. From career women who lament that their accomplishments don¿t give men erections to living lardballs claiming that men don¿t want them because of peer pressure, the female is unparalleled when it comes to assigning her prejudices and desires to the male. Even on issues on which men and women are visibly different, such as the effect of aging on sexual market value, women can¿t stop digging in their hole of projection, as is evidenced by the myth of ¿male menopause¿ and the ludicrous new claim that men have a biological clock. Men rarely engage in sexual solipsism of this sort, and those who do are mocked..."

This is appalling. You can all feel free to refrain from using words like "feminazi". These women are human beings, and people do not "expire" until they leave this mortal coil. I think it important that readers also note the disclaimer at the bottom of this page which states that the network will have nothing to do with the opinions posted on this here blog. Thus, no one can think that it is the fault of the manly men's channel for this offensive trash to have been posted. As for so-called feminazis, who are also represented in the response to the article, can't we all agree that Lifetime is as much bullshit as Spike? In any case...television is irrelevant. Let's hear it for humanism!

GOOD GRIEF! What a piece of misogynistic CRAP! What, do men not have an expiration date?

And there's nothing wrong with Drew Barrymore, she looks fine! Have you seen her lately...she doesn't look chubby at all. Even if she is, so what? Do all actresses have to be a size 3 or something? And you wonder why actresses as you say "buy into the unattractive Hollywood fad of self-starvation". It's because of people like you.

I never liked any of them. Sarah Jessica Parker and Meg Ryan really deserve to be on this list.
On the other hand, who can blame them for aging? Nobody can avoid that. They were just not that great in the first place.

So because a couple of women make denigrating comments about men, there's no reason to be kind or respectful to women in general? Isn't that just as bad as women who decide to hate men in general because of the actions of a few?

I don't get it, guys. I mean, fine, let's say that this article is all in good fun. But then to go and say that it's even better because it actually hurts and upsets people? To act like that's an admirable goal? Why do people perpetuate this stupid war of the sexes crap?

Surely you fellas have women in your lives who you love and respect. You might be surprised, too, to find out that some of them are probably feminists. A feminist is not a woman who wants to bust your balls and spoil your fun. Honest. Not all feminists are lesbians (and certainly not "man-hating lesbians," the old familiar stereotype), but that shouldn't matter anyway. Most feminists are people you know, who just want a fair shake at being treated like a human being. There really are some things wrong with our world in the way it treats both men and women, but we can never seem to talk about them honestly as men and women because words like "sow" and "old bag" and "man-hater" and "chauvinist pig" get in the way.

You guys really do like women, right? For their beauty, certainly, but maybe also for the occasional friendship? Possibly the occasional relationship? Because there are some really nice things about women. There are some really nice things about men. So why are we constantly at war and perpetuating only the negative stereotypes about each other? Is it because we get burned and give up?

    I don't get it.

ugh, i think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. I thought being a writer you're supposed to be creative. Guess the ole judge-women-only-on-looks bit was the farthest the author's little brain could expand to. Maybe Spike should try a talented writer next time?

    Good article!

But I see the herd from feministing.com is going on a stampede! They're likely upset because they're all already past their expiration dates (despite their ages) and as much as they hate men, they still demand our respect. The poor misguided sows...

if you want to hold women to standards of physical beauty (even though they seem arbitrary and impossible at times) then women have every right to hold men to standards of intelligence.
the holes and contradictions in your "logic" simply don't live up to our standards....
but i'll make you a deal; grow up and eradicate stupidity from the male species and i'll make sure that all women look exactly alike and never, never age.

    @ yourmomagain

Scroll up. There's a photo of the guy who compiled the list. His name is Nathan Bloch and yes, he had the balls to post a picture of himself while passing judgement on others.

So your whole post is irrelevant. Nice try, though.

We get it. The compilers of this list don't find any of these women fuckable. Guys, really, you don't have to make excuses for your sexual tastes; no one's going to assault your manhood for finding these women unfuckable. But these ladies all put their butts on the line every time they step in front of a camera and so, for future reference, if you're going to engage in such irresponsible, destructive bullshit endeavors, maybe your list compilers could also post photos of themselves - full length, of course - to accompany such articles.

    Also...

    Ageism and sexism?

People are going to be judged on those criteria because they're DEFINING FACTORS OF WHO WE ARE AT ANY GIVEN STAGE IN OUR LIVES!

Children are judged for being children for F-SAKES. ROFFEL. Get a grip you old bags.

It's interesting that you express surprise over Helen Hunt's dramatic weight loss, yet you are quick to label Drew Barrymore as "fat". Miss Barrymore cannot possibly be larger than a size 6.

You also express annoyance about the poor acting choices made by Renee Zellweger. Have you considered that ageism and sexism in Hollywood are a contributing factor? This whole article is fine example of that. Women in hollywood are no longer considered bankable actresses after the age of 35 and therefore receive very few offers. Your comment about Cameron Diaz illustrates another part of the problem: "Must the studios keep foisting her upon us as the "Hot Girl" when we¿ve got the likes of Megan Fox and Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt to pick from?" In Hollywood, women are viewed as "Hot Girls" who have no identities and their only purpose is to look good and stay quiet. Clearly, that's an idea you agree with. I hope someday you grow out of that and learn to respect women by treating them as people. Not as physical objects that can become useless as they merely succumb to the natural process of aging. You might be surprised by what you would find.

Wow, a lot of ladies obviously butthurt over this. For that alone, it's a great article. Nice job, Nathan.

I've always thought it great when angsty women turn out in their numbers to demand respect for their gender from those whom they simultaneously denigrate. 'Men are only good for running over ... so have respect for us!' Yeah, cool story bro. No really. I always respect people who want to kill me and always feel sensitive towards their objectification.

I do suspect that the reason so many ladies are so fuming is because they know how true this article is; and that they are all either approaching, or have already passed, their expiration date. Or perhaps they never got male attention in the first place. Their emotional outbursts are hilarious, however - like a child stomping its feet - so please write more articles along these lines, Nathan.
