Actor/director Kenneth Branagh's movie adaptation of Marvel's Thor goes before cameras this January, which means there's hope of seeing some in-progress work at next summer's Comic-Con. Will this be the next awesome comic adaptation or an anachronism lacking a fanbase?
Slash Film gives us the scoop, reporting:
The Production Weekly tweet specifically says that production will begin in LA in mid-January, after which the film will move to Santa Fe, New Mexico in March, where it will remain until late April. Even if that’s not the end of principal photography, the studio will have a lot in the can by summer...
At this point the line-up for the cast is looking pretty great: Chris Hemsworth from the newest Star Trek plays Thor and Anthony Hopkins plays his dad, Odin. Natalie Portman plays Jane Foster, a nurse who shows kindness to Thor's human alter ego Donald Blake.
And, of course, we have Com Feore, who is going to play a presently unnamed villain, along with Stellan Skarsgard.
This definitely has enough talent to be a great film, the only question is if there are enough Thor fans still out there who will care enough about the comic to see the movie -- and pony up $10 or more to see it.
Branagh is not a stranger to genre fare, having directed a movie adaptation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.
