On July 11th, the UFC will hold its historic "100th"pay-per-view and perhaps it's fitting that facing each other on the card will be Mark Coleman and Stephan Bonnar, a man who helped build the sport and a man who helped save it. Thanks to AOL FanHouse, we get a little look at what's going on in Bonnar's head a week before he takes on a legend.
At 32, Bonnar is relatively young (relative to the 44-year-old Coleman), but he's seen his share of wars in the cage and has definitely earned his keep over the years.
Speaking with FanHouse, Bonnar makes it clear that he's making no mistake about who he's stepping into the Octagon with next Saturday:
His fights have been with top-flight opponents. Two times with Shogun Rua, two fights with Fedor Emelianenko, and then Mirko Cro Cop. And he was supposed to fight Brock Lesnar coming back into the UFC. So I don't think he's scared of me.
It's got to be tough for someone like Bonnar to prepare for a fight of this magnitude. Not even mentioning the ghost he's constantly fighting, he's up against one of the greatest fighters of all time in Mark Coleman and it's happening at the greatest event of all time. But if there's one thing Bonnar has always been good at, it's the mental game -- okay, if there's one thing, it's getting punched in the head, so if there are two thing -- and he's using his mistakes from the past to overcome this 6'1" hurdle.
