The Ultimate Fighter

Roy Nelson: Life After Kimbo

Welcome back.  This week we find out how Marcus Jones has good days and bad days. We might actually see Kimbo fight once more… or not. On this show we also find out if Rashad's Team is going to rack up, staying undfeated in fight picks since his team has not lost yet. I don't want to get in trouble for revealing anything, so I will just say Kimbo starts to train with Coach Van and he picks up six new wrestling tricks, and is ready to be tagged in. He may never get called, but he’s ready.

The show starts right after my fight with Kimbo's, and then Kimbo and Abe have a heart-to-heart about how they deal with their losses. Kimbo and Abe and I had this discussion about people who are a real fighters and those who just do this because it's cool. The question is simple, "After you lose what is the first thing you want to do?" Abe said he wasn't sure, mine and Kimbo's answer was simple, “Get back in gym and be better fighter,” which I thought was awesome and that is why I showed him the crucifix move I used in our fight and how to escape it.

Next scene we have Big Marcus Jones, otherwise known now as “Big Baby,” having a hot flash where he was barley going to make it. Marcus is an extraordinary athlete and he now puts his body through the ringer more then when he played football. You can see how his body starts to break down, and how much MMA takes out of you. That is why every season you don't know if you are going to be able to stay healthy for three fights. Matt Hamill is the best example. He was a stud but then was forced out of competition with an injury and Michael Bisping took advantage, winning the third season.

Now we get to see the rest of the team since Kimbo and myself are no longer in the spotlight. Kimbo lost and I start to listen to the coaches so I am being a good boy; no drama. We learn how Matt played football with no helmet and he starts to tell Scott Junk about who’s fighting next and who he is fighting, bla, bla, bla. I thought this was a great strategy since Matt was there to win and he wanted the best opportunity to make it as far as he could. Brendan, you see him talking to the coaches about the match-up changes, and wanted the easier route, which is the smartest thing any fighter can do in this situation.

Fight pick was Brendan vs. Demico, which was good match-up for Rampage’s team since you had two guys with more all around skill sets. So it made this fight very interesting to watch. In the first round, Demico's inexperience showed with a bad shot, but then he reshoots and gets the takedown and is working from guard. Then he passes his guard and tries to get greedy with mount, but Brendan reverses the position and now is on top. Demico is lost so he tries to go to knees and Brendan uses his Greg Jackson jiu jitsu and tapouts Demico.

We see Rampage lose another because of the quality of coaching again. Rashad is looking to improve next week, but Kimbo wants to join team Rashad and take Matt’s place or I think Rampage tells Matt to fake an injury because he "Pitys a Fool."

that fat slob could never beat kimbo in a street fight , all he did was fall down on him and lay there , the only thing more disturbing than that is that kimbo layed there and took it like a little bitch

Roy Nelson beats(?) Kimbo Slice and eats burgers. Cute. I'm a fan of Kimbo's, but a fan of fighting first. The strategy was a sound one; get Kimbo off his feet. Everyone knows that standing toe to toe with Kimbo isn't the best of ideas. The thing that bothers me is the way the strategy was carried out. Roy Nelson LOVES to spout off about how he was the former IFL champ and so forth, but going up against a man with limited MMA background and still managing to look like a rank amateur is terrible. I wouldn't say I won that fight if I fought like that. That was certainly NOT what a championship caliber fighter in the UFC looks like in the octogon. There was NO tenacity, NO power and little skill shown in that outing. I wouldn't be sitting down and acting all cute about it. You got really really lucky, big boy, so don't go off resting on your laurels. Champ or no, for a BJJ black belt, you looked like sh*t on the ground against a guy with virtually no ground game.

I like Kimbo too, but you gotta give some some credit to Roy. Kimbo tried to do what he does best, so did Roy. But not hurting someone is not excuse for some of the language been used here. Looks like you only like Superman types to win. Hey, Fedor is not so big, not so muscular defined and he IS THE MAN TO BEAT! Tank Abbot was ferocious on those early UFC. Roy has some sick jiujitsu, go and see on youtube some of his videos. On 2003 he dominated Frank Mir against the ground (grappling match) and that's no joke. Enjoy the fights, post comments, but don't bring the fat, muscular, black, white, american, foreing stuff in here. We enjoy the fights, whoevers bring it. Roy you showed professionalism whe you took your coaches criticism and advices, more over you showed Great heart and sportmanship showing Kimbo how to escape his loosing position. That alone shows that you're not afraid of facing Kimbo again if it happends. Good Luck!

I'm kinda getting over this season of TUF really fast. Heavy weight fights are lame. Rampage sucks as a coach. It's getting very frustrating to watch bad fighters win.

lol you guys crack me up... Kimbo was put in one of the most dominant positions possible not once, but twice. Then Roy had enough class to only hit him lightly enough to win the fight rather than smash his face in. Kimbo was defensless on the ground and got dominated. Good fight Roy.

Kimbo didn't even try to escape. I hate Roy Nelson but Kimbo made no real attempts to do anything/ With all that power he could of freed a hand and tried to bridge out.None of these heavyweights could ever be in Lesnars class anyway!

Roy didn't win the fight in the best way, but he won, plain and simple. I would like to see a rematch after Kimbo gets some ground game though, and see how it goes from there. Roy did nothing wrong in the fight. This is a competition where you have to win to move on, he won and he is still in the game for a reason. Kimbo on the other hand is not, unless someone gets injured. I'm a big Kimbo fan, but he was out-skilled in that fight.

I agree with the decision as far as kimbo losing that weak ass fight. But....it was stated by Dana that nelson did what he could to win the fight without getting hit!!! Smart, because everyone knows that if slice put his hands on you its a beatdown. i would love to see a rematch just to see nelson get some pounds beat off of him

You WWE fanboys need to stop watching fake fighting and actually study MMA a bit to appreciate it. That's why there are three phases to fighting in the Octogon: free movement, clinch and ground. #1 rule of MMA competition: put your opponent in a position that you are superior in. Big Country did just that, so he had sound measures. Y'all just don't like seeing my boy Big Country doing his thing and pummeling Kimbo while he was in a bitch position. He won it fair-and-square, and you know it; you know why? B/c all the inferior people wants a rematch. Losers always want a rematch, so go cry, losers. Big Country done threw down and beat some Kimbo. ha ha HA!

A lot of you kids just need to shut the fuck up.
Kimbo showed improved stand up, better stand up and better head movement, he will continue to make progress.
Roy is a smart fighter, it seems like to me he wanted to score a safe win without taking heavy damage so in his next fight he's fresh and ready.
You guys can't take anything away from either of the fighters.
Kimbo keep up the great work.
Roy knew exactly what he was doing.
Not all wins are going to look spectacular.
The fight wasn't called by some shitty decision, Roy got Kimbo in a position he could not get out of and was hitting him just enough.

im a kimbo fan & i dont like how he lost but i agree win is a win if da competition is all bout winning da TOURNAMENT for a prize of million $'s & a UFC contract then i would say all of us wouldve dun wats neccessary to win nobody's goin to wait or want to wait for no one to play catch up.....KIMBO need to stop playing around & stop not jus letting da hype get to him but da trash talking dat people do to discret it him get to him & jus focus how he would for any fight out in da street & jus do wat u do best & go at it for da same reason u did out in da streets & dats to feed ur family....cuz u would b able to feed dem more if u get more shots & u do dat by winnin

Roy! Love him or hate him. Kimbo! Love him or hate him too. The idea in the show is to get a victory and continue on toward the six figure contract. That's the bottom line. Roy played it safe and won the fight. Rashad picked the fight, not Roy. Roy didn't want that fight for several reasons I can agree with. It was too early in the show for that fight and I understand the reasoning there.

Maybe they will match up again in the show, who knows. Maybe Kimbo will throw more aggressively and will pick up a few good tricks on defending the takedown and escaping several different mount positions. If he does he'll be hard to deal with to say the least.

Roy as mentioned needs to work at a much larger camp to get the best training possible. The question here is does it really matter who wins this show? Can they compete with Brock, Cain V., Gabriel G., Shane Carwin etc. etc.?

Roy did what he had to do to not get hit by Kimbo's hammer fists! He knew it was a good chance that Kimbo would've knocked him out if he got him good, so thats why he did what he did. It wasn't "pretty" or anything, but he did what he had to do. I mean, C'mon! Who wants to get hit by Kimbo? I know I don't! I think that Roy has great sportsmanship and heart and so does Kimbo. I'd like to see them both excell in this game. I'd also love to see Rampage get replaced, but we know thats not going to happen!

it was a good fight just not the type of fight kimbos used to, theirs away to get out and kimbo didnt know it, big country did not stay standing, cuz lets be hinest he didnt want to get rocked again by those big ass punchs from kimbo, so he knew kimbos weakness, and he used it for his advantage, kimbo just need to work on his ground game and he'll atlease live through the round.

Wow, Roy, imagine what you could do if you sculpted your body into athletic form. Or is that even possible? Whatever works. I am sorry Kimbo lost, but I bet he will move up the ladder as opposed to Roy who thinks he is there already. more of a win for kimbo, he will benifit most from the loss. roy diddn't want any of Kimbo's standup, got rocked a couple of times while he did stay standing. I bet if the fight were on the feet for another 30 seconds, Roy would have been singing nite nite.

I'm not a big Roy fan, and that fight was not what I expected. However, it does show us that if Big Boy Roy can beat Kimbo, then Kimbo needs a ground game. Roy said that was what he was going to do and then did it. If he had said he was going to knock him out and then beat him the way he did, I could understand the insults a bit more. Also, to the person that said Roy could not win a real street fight against Kimbo...If you watch you-tube fights of Kimbo they stop when the guy falls down. A real fight would not be stopped like that. Therefore, Roy would have won just like in the Octagon. Sport or real, Kimbo needs to learn MMA rather then backyard boxing. I, for one, hope he does. I did not like seeing Roy lay on him either.

THIS SEASON HAS BEEN DISAPPOINTING. EVERY WEEK I HAVE LOOKED FORWARD TO THE SHOW, BUT AFTERWARDS I LEAVE WONDERING WHY I HAVE WASTED MY TIME. UFC, YOU HAVE 2 OPTIONS: 1) BE HONEST AND TELL THE PUBLIC THIS SEASON SUCKS. 2) HAVE 2 FIGHTS PER EPISODE...INCREASE THE ACTION.
