We knew it was bound to happen. It might be a bit premature, with the 2008 SRT8 Challenger being the only model available for comparsion until the fall, and the fact that the 08 Challenger only comes with an automatic(!). And the Dodge costs about 8 grand more, sans dealer markup - but both cars are subject to that nonsense.

Regardless, the shootout is awesome. It makes me smile to see two new, gorgeous, bonafide American musclecars in an honest magazine-style shootout. The result? Both of these cars are badass. Duh.

I'm looking forward to a 09 Bullitt vs 09 Challenger R/T comparo, which we'll probably see late this summer. Since the R/T is about 300 pounds lighter than the SRT8 and now the smaller Hemi makes 375hp, it think it will be a more interesting matchup, both performance-wise and price-wise. Really, this is a win-win situation for muscle car fans. Get 'em while you can - it's 1970 all over again.
