Director McG, the mastermind behind Terminator Salvation, has plans before the next Terminator film -- assuming he's the man who winds up helming it. Yes, it's true: he's developing a new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, for better or worse.
In a recent interview he was asked about directing the next Terminator film, to which he responded that his focus was on 20,000 Leagues. Is this because he knows he's not going to get the job for Terminator 5 or because he's simply burnt out on man-machines?
Whatever the reason, he has this to say about the new 20,000 Leagues:
...it’s a little more contemporary, because in that movie, there were…You know, I love that movie, but there were two female characters, they were both prostitutes. And there were a couple of black people in the film, and they were all electrocuted. So nowadays, I think we need to progress a little bit beyond that.
Well, it's good to know that all the women won't be prostitutes and all the black people won't be electrocuted. But is it good that McG has taken what for many is a classic from their childhood and has carte blanche to do what he wants with it?
At this point a lot of people wouldn't trust McG with an after-school special at this point.
