We've all been looking forward to the eventual release of Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Spider-Man 4, and Thor, but Marvel and Sony Studios are changing it up on us. You thought you knew when those movies were coming out, but you thought wrong: everything's changed.
Sony has announced that Spider-Man 4 is now coming out on May 6, 2011, so Spider-Man fans are going to have to find a way to bide their time for the next two years.
Marvel Studios has set the release date to Iron Man 2 to May 7, 2010, and Thor has gone from July 16, 2010 to June 17, 2011. Yikes. The Avengers is moving from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012, and The First Avenger: Captain America is going from May 6, 2011 to July 22, 2011.
David Maisel, the Chairman of Marvel Studios, has this to say about the changes:
This new schedule strongly sequences Marvel's movie debut dates, big screen character introductions, and momentum. It maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character The Avengers film in 2012.
So there you have it. The comic book movie future just had its crystal ball shook the hell up. Let's just wait and see if these dates stay put.
