George Lucas is back in the saddle again with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, an animated feature that Warner Brothers is releasing on August 15th, and will air on the Cartoon Network in the fall. The movie’s action will take place between the prequels Episode II and III.
As well as the animated film, Lucas is also developing a live-action Star Wars television program. He is financing all of these projects himself and then seeking distribution for them once they’re completed, in order to avoid any outside meddling by a studio.
Many fans will doubtless be pleased that new and copious Star Wars material is forthcoming, though some may wonder why Lucas must continue to tap a well that has long since run dry, ever since the creation of Jar-Jar Binks. At what point is enough enough?
It’s possible that new Star Wars films may continue to populate the world as long as Lucas breathes. This may not be a bad thing, though I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that at least a part of one film should be dedicated to showing us the months of physical therapy Darth Vader must have had to endure during the weeks and months of his robotic transformation. Did he ever do swim-therapy? Are those mechanical limbs water-resistant up to 50 meters? Does his mask have a snorkel-adapter?
Anyway, maybe I’ll send these ideas to George. Food for thought for his next movie.
