Looks like Little Shop of Horrors is past its sell-by date. After all, the last time it was remade was in 1986. Even if that was a remake of the original from 1960, it's still over twenty years old. I mean, after something is over 15 years old -- assuming it was decent to begin with -- it's de rigueur that it be remade. This isn't rocket science, people. This is Hollywood.
Shock Till You Drop reports that Declan O'Brien, the director of hits like Wrong Turn 3, and apprentice of Roger Corman, will be helming this remake. Andrew Tennenbaum, the producer of The Bourne Identity, will be part of the team. O'Brien said,
After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, "This is the best movie that's come through my doors in 20 years, so here's my catalogue, pick something else."
Corman has shepherded many great filmmakers into The Biz, including James Cameron. Hopefully O'Brien will be able to top Frank Oz's remake of '86, though how he'll be able to do that without Rick Moranis is beyond me.
