Len Wiseman and the Apocalypse

Len Wiseman, the director who made Live Free or Die Hard, looks like he's going to be delving into the apocalypse with his next film, Nocturne. The apocalypse has become all the rage these days.

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the story is original, and it's refreshing that we're not getting yet another remake or adaptation of a comic or a novel. They report that:

The studio [Fox] has bought an untitled pitch about the end of the world from Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizzio, with Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman in talks to direct and produce.

The project is based on an original idea about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. The studio is seeking writers for the project.

Wiseman is also the guy who directed Underworld, so this seems like it's a genre he'll excell in. As for how it'll stack up with all the other apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic movies rolling out of theaters -- 2012, The Road, The Book of Eli -- only time will tell.

Not a lot is known about this project at this point, so we don't even know who's potentially going to be cast or who's going to write the script. But you can rest assured whoever they get to star in this is going to look grizzled and dangerous, not unlike Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington in their respective post-apocalyptic films.

So is this good news? Are you excited or bored by this genre? Like the zombie movie revival, the post-apocalypse isn't going anywhere any time soon.
