British actress Natasha Richardson, the wife of Liam Neeson, was in a skiing accident and according to several media outlets she’s dead, possibly brain dead, or not dead at all. It seems no one knows what’s going on.
Natasha was skiing in Canada when she fell during a beginner’s lesson. The fall was apparently not serious, and Richardson was taken to her hotel by her instructor. Approximately 20 minutes later, she began complaining about a headache and was taken to a local hospital. Things went from bad to worse, and Natasha reportedly fell into a serious coma. She was flown to New York City for special care.
There is much confusion over the state of Natasha’s health. The Vancouver Sun reports that a close friend says the actress is "brain dead." OK! Magazine published a report on their website saying she “had died after suffering a fatal brain injury while skiing in Canada.” The magazine quickly retracted the story. Other news organizations are reporting that she suffered a "major head trauma" and was "unconscious." Neeson and the rest of her family have flown to New York to be by her side.
Natasha Richardson is a part of British acting royalty. She is best known for roles in The Parent Trap and Maid in Manhattan. In 1998 she won a Tony award for her performance in Cabaret.
Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
UPDATE: CNN is now reporting that Richardson has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her friends, family, and fans.
