When the guys over at Motor Trend finally got their hands on a US-sepc GTR, the first thing they did was strap the AWD monster to the dyno. The numbers revealed something interesting:
Let's concede to the myth and magic of Godzilla that maybe Nissan's wizards have miraculously managed to constrain drivetrain losses to 15 percent and assume the factory's engine-dyno-derived rpm peaks are accurate. That brings our hyper-conservative estimate in at:
507 hp at 6800 rpm and 500 pound-feet at 3200 rpm
If based on the median estimate, that translates to almost 540hp at the crank. Oh, and the 3.5 second 0-60? That was conversative too. So what does that faster time equate to?
That 3.2-second zero-to-60 mph time ties our best runs in a Porsche 911 Turbo and a 911 GT3-R, and trails only the Ferrari Enzo (3.1 sec) and Bugatti Veyron (2.7 sec) among production test cars.
The 2009 Nissan GTR will be terrorizing streets around the world this summer, with a price tag of about $70,000 (plus the inevitable dealer markup).
