4th and Long

Extra Point with Bill Bates

It's the final game for 4th and Long and coach Bill Bates will be sharing his thoughts on the show.

We are down to four players whose dreams are still alive. Hopefully, all of the players have learned from being on the show, whether they continue to reach for their dream of playing professional football or not! Michael, Coach Joe, and myself have tried to give these players the best and advice possible. Ultimately, it is up to them.

Everyone must realize that once you have that contract, the Dallas Cowboys do not care where you came from. Once you put on that uniform at the start of training camp, the game is on to find the top 53 players. With only a week left before training begins, I am very excited to see how well our player does.

Also, I hope everyone has enjoyed the show and we would love to do it again next year. We wish all the players that best of luck in where ever life leads them and I hope they reach their own Star...

Go Cowboys!!!

I cannot stand all other 31 teams in the NFL, unfortunatly that includes the Cowboys. Its nothing again the team, they are a good franchise to be honest. But being a devoted Titans fan I have to say that, its man law. Since that is out of the way, I love this show. Irvin, Coach Joe and Coach Bates are a hard core trio, and the things you guys do to help these guys out is amazing and inspiring. I am looking forward to this show again next year. It's my football away from football season. Which is a much needed fix. None-the-less, spike has a great thing going here. Go Titans... and good luck this season...

The only two players with talent even close to NFL caliber are Holley and Hawkins. The cornerbacks left couldn't make the Detroit Lions' practice squad. When all is said and done, it should be Andrew Hawkins remaining.

Maybe next year Michael Irvin can get the Browns some help.

The pick of Holley was politics!. Hawkins will be able to contribute more than Holley. He appears to have a better character too. The person who won will probably not see the field much early on. But he will be on the practice squad. I believe Hawkins aka "Rudy" will help the team better prepare the rest of the guys for the next weeks games. Even if he never sees the field. He will be worth his pay through pushing the others cuz they would have to at least match his efforts.

OMG!! BOOOOOOO!!!! This is total BS! Being Im from Michigan and yes unfortuantely i am a Lions fan and I dispise the Cowboys because of the Barry Sanders days, you guys picked the wrong guy! Hawkins was heads and heels beyond EVERYBODY there constantly. Every drill every episode! Iguess heart doesnt matter nor skill. He was the most explosive player there. His biggest mistake was that fumble but I mean what about the other weeks? Dude shouldve won! I hope the Lions bring him in. I would be happy to have a scrappy player like him on my team.

Holly was a politic pick most def!

Hey Mike, put the blunt down its blurred your vision. You just took a slow ,big ,average basketball player, who has no chance to get open against a n.f.l d.b,---o.k he'll get open thanksgiving day against a detroit d.b. --but hell so could I. You should be signing hawkin's a explosive, fast, quick, agile, nightmare. I'm a old white safety, played with the ft,lauderdale rattler's in early eighty's. The team,--coaching staff,--- hell entire neighborhood was black. In the huddle on my first day the team was looking at me and asked me my name, I said mario. Our middle linebacker and defensive captain said well you might be named mario but in this huddle you look like a GOD DAM OREO! So listen to OREO now and go sign hawkin's before the N.Y GIANT"S DO!!!!!

My husband and I are avid 4th and Longers! We just watched the finale and my player won!!! Although, it is hard to see Hawkins go... he was an all-arounder and the Cowboys could use some help in the special teams department. My husband is truly upset about Hawkins not making it, but I wish the best to Holley - and the Cowboys! Maybe we can see some playoff action this year with a new and unique player!

WTF!!!!! ARE YOU SURE YOU GUYS KNOW SCOUTING FOOTBALL PLAYERS??? YOU GUYS ARE F&*^ING NUTS PASSING UP A PLAYER LIKE ANDREW HAWKINS. I CLEARLY DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN PASS UP AN INDIVIDUAL WITH SUCH TALENT AND BY FAR HE BLEW AWAY EVERYONE HE WAS UP AGAINST. THE COWBOY ORGANIZATION ARE A BUNCH OF DUMB ASSES, YOU MISSED YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE A DARREN SPROLES BUT I'M SURE IF SOME OTHER TEAMS WHO WERE WATCHING, IF SMART WILL SURELY GIVE THIS YOUNG MAN THAT SHOT THAT HE TRULY DESERVES. CLEARLY COACH JOE WAS THE ONLY SMART PERSON TO SEE THE TALENT AND VERSATILITY IN ANDREW HAWKINS, ALTHOUGH I'M SURE HIS FACIAL EXPRESSION WAS A FACE OF WTF !!!,WHEN THE DECISION WAS MADE ...THEY MADE HIM TALK GOOD THINGS ABOUT HOLLEY KNOWING THAT THEY HAD MADE A F#$KED UP DECISION CHOOSING HIM,..I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN ANDREW HAWKINS AND I'M SURE SO WOULD ALL OF THE SMART FOOTBALL FANATICS WHO WATCHED THIS BS.

Great show, hope it comes on again next year, but you guys will absolutely regret not picking Hawkins in the end. I don't know what more the kid had to prove. He dominated every single drill put in front of him in the competition, and stepped it up even bigger in the games. This is essentially to find a special teams player, and the kid is incredibly dynamic in the ST game. Holley is a good receiver, but is he really good enough to beat out Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, Isaiah Standback, Patrick Crayton, Mike Jefferson, Travis Wilson, or even Manny Johnson? Hopefully Hawkins will catch on somewhere, because in the show I was watching - no disrespect to your decision process - he was the best player in every single episode.

I like Holley I'm just not sure where he will fit. As a Dallas fan, we already have multiple skill sets like him at that position. I think Hawkins would have brought a different type of player with different skills. I'm hoping with a little wisdom they will sign him to the practice squad and teach him 5 points on the ball. He just fumbeled to much. Not just the final game but multiple times within the series of the show. I wish the best for him, because I did enjoy the heart and character of the kid.

This Cowboys fan stuck in Panthers country loved the show and got a couple of my football-minded coworkers stuck on it as well. Thanks to all involved for giving us this off-season gift!

I think this whole thing was total BS! They went with Holley because he is the NFL prototype receiver, meaning height size the fact that very few can cover him on a fade route in the endzone. But straight up what did Mike say at the beginning of camp? He said "we are taking the best FOOTBALL PLAYER" point blank. Anyone with any football knowledge can clearly see Hawkins is in another league! He is clearly the best football player, hard hitter, blocker, game breaker! Yet they went with the guy they knew they were going with all along. Holley. I'm telling you if Hawkins was anywhere close to 6 foot he would be the guy and that's bs! And Mike Irvin is full it the most! Punk ass.
