DIY: Get Better WiFi With the "Cantenna"

Finally, eating all those sloppy joes out of cans is going to pay off.  Follow the instructions after the jump to increase the range and strength of your home wireless network with a little elbow grease and hillbilly engineering.

You don’t need an engineering degree or an electricians workshop, either.  Here is what you will need:

  • A N-Female chassis mount connector.
  • Four small nuts and bolts
  • A bit of thick wire
  • A can

You can get all of these except the can in a Cantenna Kit.  Speaking of cans, you have to drill a hole into the can.  But be careful, you have to go to the site to use their calculator so the hole is drilled in the right place for the wavelength of your wifi to register.

Once the hole is in the can, it’s as easy as connecting the pieces and jamming it all together.  Head to turnpoint for the technical explanations and detailed instructions.
