Director Joe Johnston, the guy who's behind the camera for the upcoming The Wolfman, talks a bit about the possibility of a Jurassic Park 4 in a recent interview. Could we be due for another flick full of rip-roaring dinosaur fun? Possibly...
In an interview with Ain't It Cool News, Johnston had this to say about a potential Jurassic Park 4:
...there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it’s nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved. ...Joe Johnston: Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it’s sort of about studios and Steven’s thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it. They had what four years between them? 1992… 1996 or 1997, and then 2001, so we are past due. I don’t know, but we will see.
It actually seems like enough time has passed since the last Jurassic Park came out that people might be down to see another bout of dinosaur-inspired destruction. Johnston makes a good point in the interview, though, when he says that no one would believe that anyone would be stupid enough to go back to the island again.
It's kind of sad when you realize that when and if they make another sequel -- or reboot, or whatever it would be -- Michael Crichton, the author of the two books the franchise was born from, wouldn't be able to see them.
Nonetheless, what better way to pay tribute to his legacy than three more (awesome) Jurassic Park movies? However, when you take into account how full Spielberg's plate already is, it seems highly unlikely he'll want to deal with this anytime soon.
Which might just mean that Johnston is guaranteed the job, if it's up for the taking.
