If you've secretly been pining for the decidely nerdy Segway, but wanted something with a bit more cyberpunk in it, Jake Loniak of the Art Center Pasadena has the answer. Still only in conceptual form, the Yamaha-branded Deus Ex Machina concept motorcycle takes the best elements of the Segway and the best elements of the bikes from Tron and yields this seriously badass mode of transport.
Gizmodo reports:
The vehicle is powered by ultra-capacitors and doped nano-phoshpate batteries (similar to the ones currently used in hybrid cars) and it is controlled using 36 pneumatic muscles with two linear actuators set along a spine consisting of seven artificial vertebrae. Even the helmet is pneumatically attached.
Loniak theorizes this design could hit a top speed of 75 mph and go from 0-60 in 3 seconds flat, with a re-charge time of 15 minutes and a charge cycle life of one hour.
Like many concepts, this may never come to fruition. But if it comes down to a choice between this and the newly 'chic' Geo Metro, I'll go the Blade Runner route any day.
