Deconstructing 2012's Apocalyptic Limo Ride

Like any modern end-of-the-world flick worth its salt, 2012 employs its fair share of CGI to bring the scale of destruction to an epic level. During the height of the mayhem, a limo makes a harrowing escape from a world which is literally falling apart around it. But how'd they get it to look so convincing?

Software company SWAY created a program called the "Drive-A-Thon" in which the user controls the scene via a steering wheel and pedals, much like an arcade simulator, while the software renders the physics in real time, which yields the effect of natural motion. Well, as natural as it can be when the world is coming to an end.
