The UFC was dealt another blow to its main event for UFC 85 as they announced Monday that Chuck Liddell has been forced to withdraw from his June 7 bout with undefeated light heavyweight Rashad Evans with a torn hamstring.
"Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week," said UFC President Dana White. Below is a pic of the gruesome injury to Liddell:
Liddell was originally scheduled to face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at London PPV show in the much hyped first ever meeting between the two Light Heavyweights, but that scrapped after Rua was forced to pull out of the fight due to an injury. When Rashad Evans stepped in, the UFC looked to have salvaged their Liddell Main event fight pitting the two together for a highly anticipated bout with Light Heavyweight title contention implications.
"Being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him," said White. "But I wouldn't let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent."
The UFC stated they will announce a new main event shortly, along with the remaining lineup for the 13 fight UFC 85 card.
