4th and Long: You Make The Call Poll - Week 8

The cuts are getting more and more difficult, and this week Michael resorted to extreme tactics. Did he make the right choice? Hit the jump to vote and voice your opinion.

image

This week Michael Irvin put Montrell Jones against Moses Washington in a head-to-head contest to see who will continue on. It was defensive back versus wide receiver on the goal line and Moses Washington came up with the goods, scoring one more for the d-backs and sending Jones packing. But was it fair to put the injured Montrell Jones, one of the team leaders, in a do-or-die matchup? You choose.

    Great show....very dramatic.

As the defensive coach said, Jones did not even come in the camp in shape. He just tried to slide by. To me, Jones was not outstanding in the camp . He did enough to get by.

"Let the door hit ya...where it splits ya." Bye bye Mr. Jones. There is alway the CFL...$60,000 a season ain't bad if you have no employment! LMMFAO!!!!

Sometimes I think these guys lose sight of what they are competing for. For a chance to 'strap it up' with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp, they should be fighting, biting, strapping, trucking, and owning they guys the are competing against. If you can't say anything else about Moses Wash, at least he is scrappy. He has zero skill for the position and zero technique. But, at least he was playing like he didn't want to go home. I don't know how injured Montrell Jones is/was. But, Mike can't send a guy to camp the the Cowboys who is out of shape AND injured. Mike really liked Swan. But, Mike can't depend on Swan to complete training camp. Mike is pushing these guys hard so that the guy that survives will be in good enough shape to at least complete camp. You all know that a guy can't compete for a spot if he can't complete camp. Montrell was not likely to complete camp if by some miracle he was able to outlast the other guys and win the roster spot. He had to go home.

These WR need to just start smacking heads at the line and pushing off in the end-zone. Because seriously, the DB's have been all over them for weeks. *(And of course, the quarterback blows the throw half the time!)* The DB's look bad... really bad. Not that it matters. Irvin's gonna pick a WR anyways...

It does have to come down to mano a mano ultimately to get the numbers down, but if Washington doesn't have to pack his bags this week, up against Hawkins or Holley, it'll be soon enough. Had his hamstring not been strained, I'm sure Montrell would have stuck around a little longer.

jones was just lookin for a free ride. i understand the other guys got hurt and all. But Jones threw his chance away when he decided to go to drugs. as far as im concerned he should of never been let on the show. as far as him being hurt. he probably got too high the night before. and they should have kept speedy.

Good call Mike. I don't think Washington should make it either, but Montrel would have been a HUGE mistake. Although as a Giants fan, if you would have kept Montrel, and he would have snaked his way onto the team the way he snaked his way this far, it would have made it even easier to beat the 'boys than it already is going to be.

I think Michael Irvin and the producers of this show are negligent for the injury to Jones hamstring. Running 8 miles might be good for tv ratings but not good for football player hamstrings. Seriously... going from zero to 20 miles per hour on a treadmill for as long as you can go then go play a full game of football... you got to be joking, right??? Pop... that was the sound of Jones hammy and his dream. Is Michael Irvin smoking that pipe again??? I understand Michael Irvin wants to create drama but he is doing it at the expense of the athletes' health is not right. Jones is the only player on the show with a TRUE NFL body and ability. That really upsets me, how can Irvin make an injured player suit up to play a do or die? Why should I watch this show with no more Jones?

Wrong choice. True Jones missed three passes, but none of those were due to Moses' ability. They were due to Jones being cold since he did not work out all week. Moses has no ability at all just luck and holding.

Tonight was the first night that i didn't agree with the decision. Not that it really matters though cause neither one of these guys would have won the show. Washington does ok enough for practice but everyone knows that in a REAL game he would not survive, good competitor though. Jones has the toughness but i really don't see him lasting a full season, his body has toooo many miles and dinks in it already! This show will come down to Holley or Hawkins, considering they both stay healthy!!!! I see Hawkins coming out in the end for the simple fact that the Cowboys could use a good slot reciever, someone like Wes Welker or a Percy Harvin. The NFL game has changed here recently with the wildcat and slot guys being such an impact! Look to see Hawkins in the endas the champ!!!! Also this is the first football show that i have ever liked or agreed with, keep it up SPIKE!

Let's see... MIchael gets mad at one player for NOT following the trainers instructions and then is upset when Montrell Jones who is doing what the trainer said doesn't go to the field. Was Montrell suppose to injure himself so badly that he would never be able to play football again? Also, wouldn't you think the fact that Montrell was getting up early every morning and running show that he wanted it more than the others? To me I would think that Michael would use that fact to shame the others into working harder.

Now for the most important part. PICK ONE and ONLY ONE way to stay on the show. Why give some players a way out that others didn't receive? In watching both the times they used the best of five reps the offense is diffinitely anti-offense. I would bet a lot if I was a bettin' woman that if you gave a pro receiver and a pro d-back the same test the pro d-back would win at least 7 out of 10 reps, if not more. The receiver must rely on someones else's skill (quarterback) to win and the d-back is allowed to do whatever it takes to win. In this case Moses was allowed to cover Montrell in every illegal way he wanted. I know life's not fair but there has to be a better way to decide the winner.

    Other than that....

    Have a great day!

    Kat

Come on! You cut gamble last week! then you cut Jones this week? So you leave moten and washington? oh my goodness! That is STUPID! If you ask me, I believe that Holley and Jones both deserve a ticket to camp. They can only get better playing against bigger and better talent. Most of the stuff Irvin is putting these guys through is unrealistic and made for TV! Some of these workouts would NEVER be done in training camp, because if they did, your whole team would be injured. I really like the show and the competitive games, but these trainings are mad for TV. Washington sucks! Everybody was talkng about him before he walked in (not that they had a reason to talk, especially moten). Go Holley!

Personally, I think there may be a couple of those guys that might have enough skills to get invited to camp, but honestly don't think neither has what it take to actually takes to make it pat that point and play for the Cowboys. Don't forget, this is reality TV. I think Mike should have cut both of them in the War Room. One was horrible and had no skills and the other was a slacker.

idk if Montrell would have won the show, but in my opinion, when fully healed, he is NFL worthy
and as for Moses, I like the guy but he just doesn't have it, the only good plays I saw him make was when he held the other player's pads and jersey, he couldn't help the worst defense in the NFL...honestly

hoping Hawkins wins it, Holley may be just as good but he's an ass at best, give the spot to a guy that'll do the job w/ getting a penalty flag thrown, give it to Hawkins!

Did Jones deserve the opportunity that Swan got in staying an extra week to get healthy. Absolutely. Does it make a difference in the grand scheme of things. Absolutely not. Jones was nothing but a big body to put at receiver, and he would not have won these competition regardless, and even if he had he could not compete in the NFL. Injury is part of the game and you can't blame that. Moses will be gone soon enough and everyone knows it's Holley and Hawkins competition to lose. None of these DB's can compete for a spot and Holley is the ony one I can see making it through camp.

People have been cut for less. It is put up or shut up time. You are either tough enough to handle the pressure or tuck it and go home. Montrell was around that long because Mike wanted him to be what he wasn't, a warrior. Washington is garbage and Montrell, on his worst day, should have crushed him. We saw who was hungriest. Remember Anquan Bolden played with a broken jaw.

to me Moten keep makin plays in week in & week out except 4 dis week. Montrell is a BEAST but is outta shape & was injured so i understand why he has 2 go home. Moses, mann i sometimes go wit da underdogs its why i became a giants fan during deir superbowl year, but i dont see any potentials or talent in him. he evn got bytch slap by hawkins & got put in da ground by a receiver, naw 2 a defender dat is embarrasing & i play DE & nevr put out lik dat by somebody who is 100+ pounds heavier den me. it looks lik it gotta end wit andrew hawkins vs. ahmad smith becuz both r healthy & can make plays. holley wuld just blend wit da othr receivers on da feild & moten has an injured knee which wuld hurt him in his chances. but in all out it comes down 2 defense vs. offense which is da way evry football game goes out. defense wins championship, & offense gets da fame.

moses washington does not have what it takes to make it in the nfl, and to be perfectly honest there are only two guys that had a shot in the first place and they just sent one home, well, jesse good luck because obviously these coaches dont care about making the wrong call and whoever is playing quarterback for this show blows, they should bring staubach in, he might be old but at least he is accurate. Montrell will be playing for somebody else and we are going to be so sad, especially if one of these awful db's win this competition, unless they bring back montrell and turn him into a db.

moses has heart. but lets be serious here, heart will only get u so far. no matter how determined u r, its just a fact of life he doesnt have the body of an nfl player. jones would have been cut later on anyway, but michael irvin is shattering the concept of getting the BEST player for the cowboys. repeat, not the player who wins the show, THE BEST PLAYER HE CAN GET. gamble should've been gone a while ago. i lyke hawkins if only he could be a lil bit taller. but all in all ahmaad smith or hawkins. because holley is a less rich version of pacman jones.

I knew either way that either of the two players would be the last one standing. Moses just sucks so bad its not even funny. Well come to think of it, it kinda is. Moses will be gone next week. i thought at the beginning of the show Erik jackson would win. I think steven andrews might even be better than washington. No andrews is the worst. but washington is the second worst and gamble and jackson both deserve to be infront of washington. I really hope for the fans sake that washington is gone next week.

    Right Call.

Montrell Jones should've been cut a LONG time ago. I think it was the first or second episode where he was up on the chopping block, but he got saved because Michael Irvin took a personal liking to him. Any other coaching staff would have told him to smoke another tree and leave. He hasn't done anything except run over that #21 back in week one. Since then it's been dropped balls, lazy routes, awful conditioning, poor excuses, lame-duck injuries, and lack of production. Everyone knows he wasn't cut out to be a professional athlete. Now he's gone.

Speaking of professional athletes...the only one there is Andrew Hawkins. He could help an NFL team is so many ways. From being a reserve slot receiver, a featured kick/punt returner, a special teams gunner, to being a practice squad clone. He's hands-down the best thing out on that field, and he produces far & above everyone else.

Andrew Hawkins for Training Camp 2009.

Honorable Mention: Preston McGann...he was balling last week. They made the wrong call in cutting him [again]. The Cowboys blunder will be The 49ers plunder. I bet you Mike Singletary's going to give McGann a call, or any other team in need for that matter.

I can't beleive they cut Jones. Get rid of Washingtons ass he's a P*SSY. Of course he will win the 1-on-1 against Jones when he was holding the whole time. Washington is a piece of SH*T!!! I would love to stap on the pads and knock the SH*T out of him. I'll hit him so hard it will feel like he was trying to kiss the express train. Washington couldn't even hold Jones jock strap. Pack up Washington and bring back MONTRELL JONES. Hell he is up before everyone and putting forth the extra effort to improve... Who else is doing that?? Nobody that's who!!!! I love the cowboys and Michael Irvin but he made the wrong call and he knows it. Let

I really don't think that they made the right decision this past week. As a defensive lineman myself, I respect DBs and the commitment they must have to do what they do. But Washington played dirty football during the drill. Linemen know holding, grabbing shirts and cross-facing guys doesn't cut it. Personally, I'm rooting for the DBs, I"m a defensive guy, and I want one of them to win. I don't particularly like Holly's attitude, but he's a hell of a football player, and he should have caught a lot of the passes where Moses was covering him if it was played fair.

Jones was a good prospect, but an incredible underachiever. He was a lazy bum. He has all the physical tools to play WR and Special Teams. He had the best chance to make the team but he showed up out of shape and was injured twice.

The week they didn't cut anyone, he should have gotten cut.

    M. Wash, does suck, but the kid is not afraid to give it his all. He did the things he had to do to stay in the show. He came to camp in shape, learned as much as he could, and wasn't afraid to mix it up.

Speedy and Jones are the same to me. Neither came physically or mentally ready to EARN a right on the Cowboys. They both hoped that their talent would get them there by default.

Gamble should have been cut. They were abusing him throughout the show. He's gone as far as he can on his physical abilites. He was too small.

Holley, is going to win the show. He's been a top notch performer thoughout the series.
