4th and Long

4th and Long: You Make The Call Poll - Week 7

Preston McGann had one hell of a game, but experience wins every time and he doesn't have it, so it’s back to the beat for the young buck. Dante Gamble, on the other hand, has the experience and the know-how but he didn’t bring it to the field until the second half and the Cowboys can’t use a man like that. With the two men Michael cut this week, he lost what might have been his greatest talent and his smartest player -- two strong assets -- so now it's time to ask yourself: Did he make the decision? You choose.

Michael Irvan is right, experience is not a skill that Preston McGann had, but if you have the skill to be a Dallas Cowboy what does it matter.

This show is full of Do Do. The last show was stupid with those guys running up and down the steps for five hours. It was senseless.

This show has two guys who played outstanding to help their team, but two old geezers and a crackbaby cut them.

Spike is just bilking the sponsors out of money. They should just pull the plug on this show because none of these guys are going to get a job there. The cowboys are getting paid. The show is a phony!

If you watch the game film on the two full games, Gamble was getting beat, turned around, would jump on the first movement the WR would make, but I really like his attitude on the field. He had the mentality that you were not gunna beat him. That's not being concided, That's confidence! As for Steve, I believe he should still be there, 'cause in both big games, he made plays over and over. Its just bad luck he got hurt. I think he would have taken Gamble's spot.

I feel they made a mistake letting Preston go. Come on Coach Irvin, I know you have all the knowledge and expierence to be able to see excellent talent and I know you have a responsibility to the Cowboys, and that is to find them a ball player. I feel you already have him, and thats Hawkins, but Preston is up there when it comes to talent. He could only get better especially with your staff's coaching, basically you made a mistake.

No. Gamble had a lot to offer the cowboys. He was smaller but had heart and would never give up. He would bust his ass every time. Sure he was a little off his game, but Irvin has been too. I think it was a bad decision and that they should have kept him. It's the cowboys loss.

Mike, just stop lying please. McGann was a monster out there. It didn't matter who guarded him, Gamble, Moten, Washington, etc... he beat them. Sometimes 2 vs 1. He improved, excelled, and put points on the board. He outperformed all the wideouts on both sides. He was a Fantasy Football owner's dream. Even Jerry Rice said keep him. And you STILL didn't let him back!?! Are you mental?

And then your excuse was "due to lack of experience"? How the hell is he supposed to get NFL experience OUTSIDE the NFL? Weak.

Now, I agree with cutting Gamble. He can't play coverage. He never could. But If you're going to make a challenge where people are playing for spots, then you dam well better back it up. McGann deserved Gamble's jersey. Hell, he deserved Jones' jersey if you wanted to swap out WRs.

It is all politics, people. NFL is all about politics. Preston showed everybody that he can play ball. However, He has never played college ball or even Professional, only minor league. Then how can you bring a guy that never play college or professional and outplay this guys that play college or pro. you tell me. POLITICS....... Preston deserves to be playing with the big boys and let him get the experiences there with the big boys. That is how you grow and learn. This show is good because it lets us now how POLITICS works. Nobody will ever get a chance unless you go to a big college like UF, UM, Ect..., or a big time player in a small college. But no college or pro just minor league. you tell me.

Drop Gamble, good choice. Let McGann go, bad choice.

McGann lit it up on the field. He's raw? Yeah, he is. In my field I look for the raw talent. 9 times out of 10 that's the guy that outshines the rest in the end and that's the guy I want on my team.

Mr. Irvin made a good decision in dropping Gamble but he really fcuked up when he didn't give McGann a jersey.

Sad really. I guess it's going to come down to Jones (the dmubsas), Holley (the big mouth), and Hawkins (the intelligent guy). Good luck Hawkins!

Every episode that Moses Washington is not cut discredits this show. McGann outplayed EVERYONE on the field. He did better than all DBs and WRs on BOTH teams. I like Montrell Jones, but did he even have a catch in the game? McGann has size that you can't teach, he's athletic, humble, and coachable. What the hell else do the Cowboys want? This is why the continue to underachieve year in and out.

What a bunch of crybabies there is in here !!! Ya'll try to make this black and white. When ya'll know none of these guys will make the team. The exception is Hawkins. McGann has zero shot to make the team. Swan gets hurt too much. Just like Stanback, who likely is getting cut after this year's training camp/preseason. At least Stanback has the speed which is the only thing that kept him here this long. McGann got cut again because he has no balls. Mike gave him a chance and asked him who's jersey he deserves from the blue team. He sucked up his nuts and he said, :"I haven't been here the past two weeks and I can't judge these guys". I'm sure that pissed Mike off. The last time he was on the team, he got pushed around by the smallest guy on the field, Gamble. That's inexcusable. What the hell is going to happen when he gets to training camp ??? Then pressed he picked the other person with very little football experience. He doesn't have the heart to play for the Dallas Cowboys. He is WEAK. He probably wouldn't beat out Mike Jefferson for a training camp spot. Besides, which team is going to line up to teach him how to read a playbook and be a pro at age 25, when he never played college ??? If he is as good as all of you aholes say, some other NFL team is going to snatch him up for training camp. Him and Swan, and Speedy, and Andrews are gonna make some other team since MI makes such poor decisions. And another thing, Mike hates Jerry. He wouldn't give Jerry the satisfaction, here or never.

The deal was if you outplayed another player, you get a jersey. Preston outplayed the other guys. Irvin broke the promise he made to the players. He didn't say, "if you outplay them and you have a lot of experience" That wasn't the deal.

He is a talent..I think Gonalez could have a chance if he keeps the faith and the big guy# 84..The rest not so much..If luke could stay healthy then yeah..But he is injury prone..The dbs arent NFL caliber at all...Preston outplayed EVERYONE though..Dont know if I can even watch the rest of the show..Alot of bums left..I agree with getting rid of Gamble..Alot of heart but just to small..Once again if JETS coaches look at this..PRESTON MCGANN..We need some WRs

McGann played well, and maybe he deserved another shot. But there are still a lot of really good players left and since ultimately it's going to come down to one guy, fans will have a lot more criticism to level when other talented players have to pack their bags. As the six guys remaining are all excellent players, the coaches are going to have to point to even the slightest weakness in any of their play. At this point I really wouldn't want to be in their shoes, because the decisions on whom to cut are going to get a lot harder. Best of luck to all the athletes!

But why not let McGann stay in his place? Where was that out of shape reject Jones? He made crap for plays. McGann could have taken his jeresy too! WOW what a huge let down. Preston is a good player. He comes in every game and plays hard he is consistent in every game. Michael Irving talks about consistency, Preston has that. Michael talked about that he needed to be physical; He proved it in the game. Now he is saying, no experience, of course, all he has is minor league and he still proved that he is better than the other guys. Imagine in minor league they only practice 2 days a week and the NFL they practice every day. Of course the NFL player will get better, that¿s there job. Imagine if Preston would have the opportunity of practicing every day and plays hard the way he knows how to. He can become a good NFL player. But they would not see. Stay humble and work hard Preston and you will make it. God bless.

As a life long Cowboys fan I am digusted with the so called "competition", to become a Dallas Cowboy. It is obvious to see, there is a hidden agenda going on. Finally given the opportunity, #85 Preston McGann showed the WORLD he deserves a shot. This young man had 9 RECEPTIONS, 2 TOUCHDOWNS and 152 TOTAL YARDS. He also has the most class and character of the entire group. After being cut, once again, he showed what the NFL so desperately needs, a tremendous amount of talent, and class to go along with it. Once again, Michael Irvin has made a poor decision and has embarassed the Cowboy image.

"Preston McGann, I'm sorry the Cowboys can't use you, you are too white".

I agree that Preston proved that he deserves to still be in the competition. And it was really misleading for Irvin to say that he would give a jersey to a rivel if they outplayed a player but then not actually do it. Kinda put a bad taste in my mouth about the show, which is a bummer since I enjoyed it so much before.

Here is what sounds a little fishy to me...... They keep bumping their damn gums about McGann not having enough experience, okay well here are a few points:

    1. They knew his experience or lack there of before he was ever selected as one of the final 12.

    2. Didn't he have to qualify and meet the same criteria as the other "experienced" players?

    3. Seems like Michael likes to pull aside Jones, Gonzales and Moten to tell them what they are doing wrong,

but none of the "less experienced players" get that one on one coaching...they just get dogged when they

out-play, and out-class Michaels Dream Team.

I guess you don't have to have "Smarts" to play for the Cowboys...Jones proves that...he just acts plain DUMB

You Don't have to have Character to play for the Cowboys ...again...Jones along with others show us that . You don't have to have TALENT...Washington shows us that..........and finally.... You don't have to have HEART...Because again....Jones shows us that...all he does is complain about being tired...or needing a break... waaaaaaa..I hope McGann wipes the floor with Jones tears someday on the field...AGAIN.

Speedy...sorry to see you go...you got heart man.

McGann...you been straight up dogged....don't know how you shook the Playmakers hand...but that's the last time I'll use that term to describe Michael...he's not a playmaker...he's straight up lie.

    Gamble....man, you're gonna play somewhere..you and #85.

    Luke...keep your faith...you are awesome.

Please explain to me Michael how Preston did not stay. You said he wouldn't go over the middle and he went over the middle. You said he needed experience but then you say he makes an NFL touchdown catch. He has 10 catches, 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Then your coaches show you Gamble opening his hips too early and jumping the first move but you say he has alot of heart and he knew he had help on the inside. That is total BS! Gamble got burned all night and when he did make a play, it was the QB's fault, not Preston or any of the other rivals.

Preston will be playing in the NFL someday and Gamble will be washing cars. I lost all respect for this show.

I could not believe that they cute gamble and did not give his jersey to the deserving person who worked hard. You talked the talk but Michael Irvin and the other coaches are not honorable! They should have given the jersey to him and no questions asked! If they would have cut him later on that would be fine, but to give someone hope and then shut the door in his face after you give him the key to open the door. Irvin and the Cowboys are not what Texas needs.

Michael Irvin would not know talent if it smacked him up side his racist head. The idea was simple; outplay your opponent and take their jersey. Apparently that was just a ploy to improve ratings for the show. I like the general premise of the show but it has clearly lost all credibility in my mind. Just another reality show looking for good ratings.

This show is Bull crap. I will not watch it anymore. You cant promise a guy something, then when he bust his ass and beats out everyone, you cut him. Irvin should have just told Preston "Sorry I know I told you one thing but I am a liar and I am not going to hold up my end of the deal". I bet if he were black he would have stayed. Just lost some of the respect I had left for Irvin. Great player, lousy person.
