4th and Long: You Make The Call Poll - Week 4

The two minute drill has bested some of the world's toughest athletes, but it wasn’t fatigue or skill that ended the dream for Luke Swan this week. Despite his obvious skill and mental acumen, Swan's propensity for injury was too much to risk and Michael Irvin had to cut one of his best players. But was it the right call?

image

The struggling Dante Gamble lives on and Moses Washington, who continues to let his size be a factor, escaped the War Room. So the question is now yours to answer: Did Irvin make the right choice?

I have to agree with this cut you only get so much time and luke was hurt so he had to go but right now me personally i only see one DB that is capable of going all the wayand the wide outs have a tough battle im looking forward to see how this plays out

its a no brainer--- 82 is the only guy who has a chance to make it---- like jimmy johnson said and i've always agreed speed kills and 82 is just faster the the rest of the players, gonzalez maybe ok in the form of a slot possession player, but if i were a coach its 82.

As much as I'd hate to see him go, because he had alot of heart...you're no good If you're on IR...he's had too many injuries...although a case could've been made for Moses AGAIN. They made the right cut

This i was a HARD decision to make ....... seein that they both make lil mistake here & there but i really can see now it was a right decision B/c of long term. Luke Swan really did have his heart into it but log term he just didn't have that strength to make it to teh end .... i iwsh him luck & hope that the rest of the guys step up !!!!

Luke shouldn't have gotten cut. Gamble let up 100+ yards and 2 or more td's in the two minute drill, not to mention the hook n' ladder play.. I have no idea what they were thinking to keep Gamble. Luke wasnt even going full speed when during his drill and he was still showing the DB up. Luke shouldnt have gotten cut; they made the wrong decision.

... never mind cutting the wrong person - both Luke & Donte should have never been called to the War Room. They should have given Luke a few more days to recover. I feel they picked on Donte tonight - he should have never been called to the room. The first time he wasn't showing his best he was brought to the War Room. What about the lazy lump..... Let's see him run 8 miles next week - I don't think so.

I liked Swan a lot, but unfortunately he had to go... It's wasn't fair to the other guys that were out there working their @sses off in the drills. Lil DB lucked out tonight tho! You can't make those basic errors he made and expect to make the cut, or make it in the NFL. Can't wait to see what happens next week!!

Hawkins will get the spot most likely unless someone REALLY dominates from here on out but I really liked Swan. They made the right choice though, it was either keep a weak player or an injured player and they went with the guy who can play. Swan really had the right determination and heart but just being injury prone killed his chances.

Gamble will be gone very soon though unless he becomes a smarter player very quickly.

Injury is too much of a liability. If he can't even get on the field to play then you might as well put in a guy thats gonna give up touchdowns. Because all you have in the end a waste of a roster spot!!!

alphawolf, I agree with you completely, Luke swan was a player, and i mean he gave it his all... the thing that they got wrong this week was not sending moses washington home... I mean we saw swan do better than washington on his last injury drills than washington did the whole day.

What a horrible call by Irvin and the coaches. Michael of all people should understand how much time it takes to recover from a groin injury and they gave Swan a couple days for an injury that takes a week or more to even partially recover from. Swan has the height needed for a WR, the hands and the skills. On the flip side, I can see that Gamble is a decent athlete, but he's a hard hitter and that's it. The guy has struggled with his coverage since day one and the two minute truly exposed how weak he is in the coverage category. They got it completely wrong on this but I guess you have to keep an even number of WRs and DBs to keep the showing interesting. It's a shame because the only three guys that stand a chance, Hawkins, Holley and Swan are now down to just two.

Luke came back from that hamstring injury and almost came back from that groin injury after one week. If Swan had the weekend to heal, he would have been able to come back and dominate. Besides, Gamble has done nothing but ask for second chances thoughout this whole compitition. I thought that Hawkins, Holley, and Swan had any chance of making that one roster spot.

I think Hawkins makes it anyway.

I agree in the show Luke had to be cut, I've had hamstring and groin problems after tearing in ACL and never could play hockey at full speed again. That twitch just by a little movement told me he wouldn't recover for a couple weeks at min. I do think if he tries he could be that Brandon Stokley or Wes Welker type, who knows certain teams do well w/ the the slot, and if I'm not mistaken Dallas has a TE that should be on the field almost every down.

This was definitely the right decision, in the NFL it's about performing NOW...in the Super Bowl, if Luke is injured he is no good for the team. Sure you can say, "let's give him time to heal", but while he's healing that's money, so you have to look at the business side as well as the performance. The pther side is it would be a 50/50 toss up, he could heal and never have another injury or continue to get injured...you never know.

Luke should have stayed. You have 2 other DB's who are better than Gamble already. He has no chance og making it to the end, where Luke, if healthy, certainly had a chance to make the Cowboys.

I understand that it was a hard choice for the choaches to make, however they only have these men for a short time and you have to choose between a man that is hurt and may be injured half of his time at camp or a man that can play and just needs a little help. Like I said its a hard chioce but it is my opinion that they did the right thing. Luke sorry u had to go out like that. Also is it possiable that luke is afraid of the sucess that he could of had. remember he got hurt in collage when things looked great for him. You know what i mean just think about it...

The Dallas Cowboys really don't need a wide receiver. The appropriate call was made. That was the second time Luke had been in the War Room. I felt he should have gone the first tme. His injury is unfortunate, but so far, the coaching staff have been on point with the cut decisions.

Normally, I would have agreed with their choice of choosing the injury prone player to cut. However, let's put things in perspective. There are 8 players that will eventually be trimmed down to 1. Time is available to make these decisions. So why not give Luke the time to heal up? He's proven himself to be a talented WR. He's got speed, hands, and can actually run a route (unlike Speedy).

Injuries happen in football, and even more so with the tasks this show requires. What happens if some of the other talented players get hurt like Hawkins or Holly? Will they get cut just for being hurt despite what they've shown? Or will they let them heal properly so that they could truly prove themselves?

Gamble can't play coverage. He can hit, and play the zone. But during the 2 min drill players who lined up on him knew they had a shot at a TD. His abilities were exposed, and he wasn't going to improve because he's done that since the first time the DBs went up against the WRs. Plus, he can't take criticism from the coaches either. When the DB coach first got on him about backpedalling, he whined about it. And the coach was actually nice about it. The WR coach would have given him real hell.

So here we have Luke who's a good WR, good hands, runs the plays that get called, but suffered a groin injury from when Moses landed on him, and he's had maybe two days to heal up before he went back to drills. Then we have Gamble, who's healthy, a solid hitter, a little small for his position, can't play coverage, and gets frustrated easily. And they kept the one who can't improve.

I strongly agree with phane00. Gamble is not Cowboy material, maybe he can make it as a Giant or Redskin but not a Cowboy. We need someone like Luke that no matter what life throws at him, he doesn't give up. They should have given him more time to heal. He caught the football several times against a healthy DB. Maybe that DB should have been in the War Room with Gamble.

Should be clear sailing for Holley unless Michael continues to lean toward Montrell Jones which isn't logical. Gonzalez is not an every down player but 3rd and short or in the red zone, he shines. His weak blocking and incompletion of routes when he's not getting the ball has to improve. Gamble, all instinct, no logic, couldn't take the coaching in the two minute drill.

Luke is a warrior. Coaches should of give him one more chance and if he wouldn't heel by then, then cut him. Even at the war room Luke said that he needs a weekend on a bike to heel. and what if he would? what if he would heel? he would possibly be in a final 3 with (Andrew Hawkins and Jesse Holey). Gamble made LOTS of mistakes, the bottom line is that he did not stay on his man to the end and it was to easy to trick him, if u make the mistakes that he made you are out of the nfl... no matter what teams it is. Coaches should of given Luke one more chance and see how he is... we didn't get to see a lot of Luke even though i am sure most of us would want to see him playing on 4th and long longer.

Luke doesnt talk trash ,,,he lets his playing do the talking for him. From day one of the program ,,it has seemed that the ones who played the worst,,played the most. Why wasnt Luke given the chance . It is sad to see him go,,but i know that God always has a plan for us,,,One door closing opens another door. Mr, Irvin will realize in the end the wrong guy was cut,,AND HE KNOWS THIS!!!!

Luke Swan puts me in mind of Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis and Patriots receiver Wes Welker if not his injury he can out do Jones and Gonzales. It was a good pick because the NFL don't have time for injury prone players.

I think there is an NFL team that has excellent trainers that can help Luke with his situation and other teams are watching, someone will give him a call for a workout.

I do hope Luke do get that chance.

Luke is a solid player, that should get a some where. However, the reality show can't wait for him to recover. In a regular camp, a week would be a reasonable recovery time. With the intent of finding a hinden talent, I wouldn't be suprise if he gets an invite later.

Hawkins on the other hand, that man has wheels. Watching fly in the open field made me realize, that he can be a threat at anytime.

I agree with this cut even though i feel dawkins should have been let go because a db that can't cover doesn't help your chances. but Luke being so injury prone is taking a bigger chance rather than letting one guy practice more on what he lacks at who is healthy now. if i was in mikes shoes i probably would've let go Dawkins and give Luke some more time to heal though....he showed some promise.

Jones did pretty badly on the jump drills but his size is just to appealing to Michael for him to let him go.
