Blood on the Sand: Vampires vs. Zombies

Spiderman vs. Batman… B.S.! Lochness vs. Bigfoot… NEVER!! Vampires vs. Zombies… OH YA!!! Hold on to your hat because here comes Deadliest Warrior: The UNDEAD version!

By now you have realized that not only is tomrrow at 9/8c the season finale of Deadliest Warrior, but you should also know that we have a double header of new episodes complete with LIVE Aftermaths, complete with all sorts of special guests! If not, then check out my "Blood on the Sand" for French Foreign Legion vs. Gurkha's for all the gritty details.

For this "Blood on the Sand" I'm going to answer the questions that everyone has been asking me all season long that for the most part I have been unable to answer due to the "TV Secrecy Gag Order" (official name) that has been applied by Spike's big brother, Viacom. Well, that gag order has been lifted, and it's time to spill the beans on the following burning questions that you've been asking:

What type of Vampires will you be using?

What type of Zombies will you be using?

What are their respective weapons?

Will sunlight be a factor?

Is it one on one OR will you allow the zombie virus to spread?

How do kill them?

Who's on the advisory panel?

What's with the alligator in the commercial for this episode?

Will there be a twist to this episode? It can't all be logical, right?

What type of Vampires will you be using?

We are going to supercharge the suave Bela Lugosi vampire of the 1920s to the more modern vampire such as those depicted in "30 Days of Night." This vampire doesn't seduce, it feeds. With not two teeth that neatly poke you in a single vein on your neck, but a full set of predator teeth with the capability of ripping the entire side of your neck off! Messy, but it gains access to the blood supply very quickly. This ensures this fast, efficient and very strong killer its spot at the top of the food chain as the apex predator.

What type of Zombies will you be using?

No black magic voodoo zombies here! We are going to match-up the fanged predator against the George Romero Zombie typical of "Night of the Living Dead". So what you'll see is a human that has been killed by the zombie virus but that same virus has the capability of reanimating the human in order to seek out and consume flesh so as to ensure the continued spread of the virus. Since the zombie is essentially dead it performs this task relentlessly without fatigue and without the social limitations of consciousness.

What are their respective weapons?

In this episode there will be "no" hand held weapons to speak of. Instead, their bodies are the weapons. For example, the vampire has his claws and ability to strike at a zombie with a slap like motion. The zombie on the other hand has human hands but with the inhibitions of the living removed so they are stronger than the average human. Plus once their bodies start to rot away, or if they have been doing a lot of feeding the flesh can get torn from the bones on the hand leaving much sharper and much harder bare skeleton. Then there's their teeth, both feed, one on instinct to spread the virus (zombie) and one for blood (vampire), a fuel for their body that acts like nitrous for a drag racer.

Will sunlight be a factor?

Yes! No, "Twilight" here!

Is it one on one or are you going to allow the Zombie virus to spread?

Tough question actually, but what we end up doing is creating a finite ratio based on the tests in the show so that the most fair fight occurs. So, while the vampires are outnumbered the virus is not actually allowed to continue to spread. What test do we perform to come to this final ratio? Of course, you'll have to watch the show to find out, but I will tell you that the logic is explained soundly. In the mean time however, check out this hilarious TMZ interview that actually addresses this question. Well, not really.

How do you kill them?

Our vampires can only be killed two ways; chop off their heads or take out their hearts. As for our zombies -- you've got to take out the brain!

Who's on the advisory panel?

George Romero ("Night of the Living Dead")

Max Brooks (World War Z)

Steve Niles (30 Days of Night)

Scott Bowen (Vampire Survival Guide)

Matt Mogk (founder of the Zombie Research Society)

What's with the alligator in the commercial for this episode?

Funny you should ask. We actually use multiple animals on this episode to help determine base line bite strengths for these mythical creatures.

Will there be a twist to this episode? It can't all be logical, right?
