Last night a new Miss Universe was crowned. Meet Miss Angola Leila Lopes, who is 2011's Miss Universe.
Business student Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe last night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, beating out 88 other competitors. She is the first person from Angola to take home the title in the world's biggest beauty pageant. The pageant is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The 25-year-old vowed to continue helping people. She said, "As Miss Angola I've already done a lot to help my people. I've worked with various social causes. I work with poor kids; I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs. I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more."
Lopes won the title despite only scoring a 3.6 in the swimsuit section. She made up for it with a 7.2 in the evening gown part of the pageant. Lopes was asked about cosmetic surgery and responded by saying she would not go under the surgeon's knife. Instead she outlined her three beauty tips. They are: to get a lot of sleep, use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. She said, "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty" and that her smile was her best weapon.
Lopes beat out Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko (first runner-up) for the title. Also rounding out the top five were Miss Brazil Priscila Machado (second runner-up), Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup (third runner-up), and Miss China Luo Zilin (fourth runner-up).
Miss USA, Alyssa Campanella made it to the top 15.
