This week is not really about software. It’s more about a brand new machine. Nintendo’s 3DS goes on sale on Sunday, March 27 and we’ll be the first to tell you that you can believe the hype. This thing is awesome. Yes, you can play games in amazing 3D without any glasses. You can also take 3D pictures or watch 3D video. We’re quite honestly shocked at how well the 3D works, but almost as impressive is the long list of features that the system comes loaded with. There are several games included and they’re not just throw-aways, either. One has you taking pictures of your friends’ faces and then zapping them as enemies in a motion-controlled manner as your surroundings become the “level.” Another has you placing cards on a table and watching (and then shooting) 3D objects that spring to life. We could go on and on about all the cool stuff this thing comes packed with, but we can guarantee that anyone you show it to is going to walk away impressed. The launch games aren’t amazing, but the potential here is pretty incredible. If you do pick up one game our recommendation is Super Street Fighter IV. Even without any games you won’t regret dropping $250 on this whiz-bang kit of fun.
As most of you already know, Black Swan is a psychological thriller by the one and only Darren Aronofsky. The critically-acclaimed film centers around a New York City ballet company as they produce a stage version of Swan Lake. Natalie Portman plays a ballerina who stars in the show, but soon finds competition in a new dancer played by Mila Kunis. This forces Portman to explore her dark side and it even starts to change her physically. The Blu-ray and DVD features cast and crew interviews, trailers, and the behind-the-scenes documentaries Behind the Curtain, Ten Years in the Making and Cast Profiles: Roles of a Lifetime. Do this, fellas. Your ladies will thank you for it and you even get to see Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman makes sweet love to each other in the process.
Even though it got a free release online a number of weeks ago, Radiohead’s newest masterwork is now available for physical purchase. Produced by the legendary Nigel Godrich, The King of Limbs is the eighth studio release by the amazing outfit of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway. The new record features eight new tracks that range from new electronic grooves to their classic alternative sounds. A band as good as Radiohead might get overlooked due to their consistent ability to bang out classics, but like all of their albums, The King of Limbs is a must for anyone’s music library.
