Inception Owns the Box Office Weekend

July 19, 2010

Christopher Nolan's mind-bending feature Inception made all of its own dreams come true at the box office this weekend.

Inception hit the mark as the number one movie in America over the weekend by taking in $60.4 million, making it the biggest opening weekend in Leonardo DiCaprio's career. Not only did Inception take in the most dollars, it’s also been getting pretty stellar reviews. That’s a rarity these days.

Despicable Me fell into second place this weekend, but the Steve Carell animated feature has collected over $118 million so far. The weakest performer of the weekend had to be The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The Nic Cage fantasy earned $17.3 million over the weekend and only $24.4 million since its Wednesday debut. Either way, it was a great weekend for the movie biz.
