Danica Patrick Comes Out On Top

by ncoles   April 22, 2008 at 6:15PM  |  Views: 96

IndyCar driver Danica Patrick raced into the record books over the weekend becoming the first woman to take the checkered flag in the male dominated IndyCar Series.

Patrick has long been considered the Anne Kournikova of the racing world, with many believing that her high profile, success and fame where based solely on her looks, rather than her achievements on the track. This is true to a degree as most people would recognize her from racy photos in FHM and Sports Illustrated or from her suggestive Superbowl commercial for GoDaddy.com. In winning the Indy Japan 300 she has finally silenced her critics and shown that she is much more than just a pretty face.

Patrick’s has been professionally racing since 2005 and was named “Rookie of the Year” for both the 2005 Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series season. The win comes after 49 starts and Patrick is ecstatic:

Dreams really do come true. You just have to be persistent enough. This was a long time coming. I can only say I'm just glad it's over. I've been asked so many times when I'm going to win my first race -- finally no more of those questions.

We salute you Danica Patrick, for being a winner and looking fine doing it.
