TV Could Dominate At Comic-Con 2012

July 10, 2012

It seems like TV just keeps getting better. Along the way, the medium is attracting better talent. Even Salmon Rushdie made a deal to create a Sci-Fi series for Showtime last year, remember? And A-list actors like Jim Caveziel-- star of the CBS crime drama Person of Interest-- are being lured away from movies by appealing small screen projects.

It's no surprise then that some of the most-hyped properties at Comic-Con 2012 come from the TV arena.

The schedule reflects about 84 total shows that'll be featured this year, compared to only about 20 movie-related attractions. Major draws like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones join Comic-Con standbys like Doctor Who and Supernatural to lead the TV takeover, while niche offerings like Wilfred and Shameless round out the selection.

As per usual at CC, genre connoisseurs will also get their fill-- there's a Battlestar: So Say We All 35th anniversary event with guests like Richard Hatch and Jane Espenson, and Sci-Fi demigod Joss Whedon will be in attendance at the Firefly panel.

Fans of Bryan Fuller's comic fantasies (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies) should look out for his presentation of NBC's Hannibal, which marks the creator's return to the medium. Fuller will also touch on his Munsters reboot pilot, Mockingbird Lane.

Other highly-anticipated shows at SDCC 2012 include returnees like Breaking Bad, True Blood and Family Guy. Stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be on-hand to represent Breaking Bad, as will Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin for True Blood.

The Family Guy panel will be led by the always-entertaining Seth MacFarlane, and promises a sneak-peak of the upcoming season.

Despite the TV takeover, SDCC 2012 still boasts an impressive line-up of films. Keep an eye out for first-look footage of Pacific Rim, Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 to name a few, plus onstage appearances by industry legends like Quentin Tarantino.
