Mel Gibson Breaks His Silence Over Infamous Leaked Tapes
Mel Gibson regrets making the racist, obscene and threatening telephone calls to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. The actor says, “I was angry at me.”
In an interview with Deadline.com, the 55-year-old actor is at pains to point out that such behavior is not the true Mel Gibson. He told Deadline’s Allison Hope, “It's one terribly, awful moment in time, said to one person, in the span of one day and doesn't represent what I truly believe or how I've treated people my entire life.”
He hopes people understand that his comments were made in the heat of the moment at “the height of a breakdown, trying to get out of a really unhealthy relationship.” He says he feels absolute betrayal in having his private conservations recorded, then publicly leaked. He wonders, “Who could anticipate such a personal betrayal?”
Gibson, who has made anti-Semitic comments in the past, maintains he’s “never treated anyone badly or in a discriminatory way based on their gender, race, religion or sexuality - period.” He says the tapes in question had “been edited.”
Gibson says the only blessing out of the whole ordeal is his 18-month daughter Lucia who is “blissfully unaware” of her parent’s shocking, public behavior.
