Spike and Michael Irvin Team Up

January 22, 2009

Ever watch American Idol and think, “Hmm, this is good but there’s just a little too much crying, and not enough bone-crushing action?” Well have no fear, Spike TV is to the rescue. This spring, along with Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin and 3 Ball Productions, Spike will be bringing you an all-new series where one lucky soul will get to crack the coveted Cowboys training camp roster.

The brainchild of Michael Irvin and his production company Playmaker Productions, this yet-to-be-titled new series will pit 12 football neophytes--six wide receivers and six defensive backs--against each other in an all-out competition. The group will be broken into two teams, overseen by notable former Cowboys coaches and players. According to ESPN.com, Irvin says we can expect to see stars like Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appearing on the show.

“This is one of the biggest ideas we have heard and speaks straight to one of our viewers’ favorite sports, football,” said Spike’s SVP of original series Sharon Levy. “Michael’s passion and 3 Ball’s storytelling ability are sure to make this one of our biggest shows ever.”

"This is a groundbreaking opportunity for football players and football fans," said Irvin. "The unique element is that these men will actually be competing for a training camp roster spot in an NFL camp. There is so much great, undiscovered football talent out there, guys that may have missed their shot for one reason or another. This is about hope and a shot at greatness.”

So all you gym class heroes out there who have ever uttered the words, “Man, I coulda made that catch,” or “If it wasn’t for that one night I’d be in the NFL right now,” it’s your chance to prove it! To enter, head to MichaelIrvin.com  or call 888-316-7136 for more information.
