Lindsay Lohan showed up to court today and left wearing a new accessory: a court-ordered, big, ugly alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet known as SCRAM.
Lindsay Lohan turned up to court (albeit 11 minutes late) to face the music after missing a court appointment last week. The actress says she was stranded because her passport was stolen while in France while attending the Cannes Film Festival. Lohan’s troubles with the law stem from a DUI way back in 2007 (she’s been on probation ever since) and has consistently failed to attend and complete an alcohol awareness class.
The troubled actress was ordered to wear an alcohol monitoring device known as SCRAM. That stands for "Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring.” This means Lohan will be monitored 24/7 and if a drop of a liquor passes her lips then the bracelet will notify authorities. Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Chapman thought the bracelet was excessive and asked for leniency, saying it would impede upcoming photo shoots and a scheduled film shoot in Texas.
Judge Revel said Lohan would have to postpone any trips to Texas as she was not allowed to leave the state. Lohan has also been ordered to undergo random drug testing at least once a week. Judge Revel said, “She needs to submit to random drug testing here, not in Texas. I'm afraid she's going to have to delay that for now. If she was in Texas and was called to L.A. to undergo testing, it's not random.” Has Lindsay finally met her match?
Lohan is expected to appear again in court July 6th. The next few months are going to be very interesting.
