California Bans Texting While Driving

September 25, 2008

Back in July, when the Governator approved the law than banned using cell phone in cars without the use of a hands-free device, he apparently missed the part about texting, which remained legal, despite being far more dangerous than holding your hand to your ear.

Well, Arnold got the, uh, message, and has since banned texting as well. Same plans as before - $20 fine for the first offense, $50 for each one after it. Which basically equates to a useless law, because few people are actually following the hands-free law now, and even fewer people will probably catch heat for this one, as it's basically impossible to enforce.

I mean, how're you going to prove someone was sending a text message instead of dialing a phone number?
