Last night in Las Vegas Miss Mexico was crowned Miss Universe, becoming only the second Mexican woman to take home the coveted title. Find out what makes her tick after the jump.
Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old Mexican model, has been crowned Miss Universe. She has been modeling since age 15 and is a nature lover. She also enjoys boating and motorcycles. She is an HIV/AIDS advocate and wants to use her new title to bring further awareness to Mexico, saying, she wants to let “the whole world to know about my country and my people.”
During the beauty pageant Jimena was asked a question about unsupervised Internet use, saying, “We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family.” After the pageant she was asked what she thought of Arizona’s recent immigration law. Her answer was extremely diplomatic and fitting of a beauty queen. She told People magazine, “Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws. But I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latins that are living here in the United States are hardworking people – people who want to improve on their quality of life.”
Jimena also dished out some advice for guys. She said, “The advice that I can give to all the men in the world, it would be to be more sensitive, more lovely, or to express in an easy way [what] you're feeling.” Sadly Jimena is not single. She has found her “sensitive” man in Pablo Nieto and the two have been dating for four years.
Rounding out the top five were Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska, and Miss Philippines Venus Raj. Miss USA Rima Fakih didn’t fare so well, failing to make the top 15. She decided not to partake in a pageant party in Vegas and instead spent time with family.
