NFL Star Forgets That Loaded Guns Aren't Allowed on Planes

April 2, 2010

Sometimes it’s difficult to remember what the crack team of community college dropouts patrolling the airport security checkpoints allows through the metal detectors these days. Nail clippers, shampoo bottles, semiautomatic weapons – who even knows anymore? With all these wacky new restrictions, it’s understandable that a three-time NFL Pro Bowler accidentally tried to take a handgun on board.

Besides, it’s not like there’s a “Please Leave Your Firearms in the Airport Daycare” sign by the JetBlue check-in counter.

Anybody could have made the mistake that Shaun Rogers did. The Cleveland Browns’ star defensive player was clearly confused when he violated F.A.A. restrictions by packing a .45-caliber cop killer (and eight rounds of ammunition in his carry-on luggage) before boarding a domestic flight.

It was obviously a misunderstanding, and one that he had ample time to think about while being detained in jail for 24 hours.

No official charges have been filed yet, but Rogers is patiently waiting to hear about his fate and whether or nor authorities will return his weapon.
