Friday Cocktail Recipe: The Bourbon Old Fashioned | Bar Rescue | SPIKE

In this week’s premiere episode of Bar Rescue, airing Sundays at 10/9c, nightlife expert Jon Taffer helps transform Angel’s biker bar in Corona, CA, into a classy billiards & bourbon establishment. So, what better cocktail to begin our recipe series than the classic Bourbon Old Fashioned? Simple and slightly sweet, this is the drink of choice for many real men, including “Mad Men” main man Don Draper (though we hear he takes his with rye). You can use many different kinds of whiskey in an Old Fashioned, but we like the smokiness that bourbon brings to the table.

Classic Bourbon Old Fashioned

1 jigger bourbon whiskey (We like Bulleit or Maker’s Mark for this)
1 sugar cube
2 or 3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 orange peel
1 large ice cube
1 Maraschino cherry or orange slice

- In a rocks glass, muddle the sugar cube with the dashes of bitters
- Place ice cube in glass, pour bourbon over it
- Twist orange peel over glass, rub zest around the rim
- Stir
- Add Maraschino cherry or orange slice, if desired
- Sample many times, perfect by the time Bar Rescue comes on this Sunday (10/9c)!
