Remaining Bouts Confirmed for UFC 106

bygdesanctis   November 09, 2009 at 3:48PM  |  Views:  |  Comment

The UFC officially announced the full lineup for the fight card being headlined by Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin on November 21.

Televised Bouts
Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson
Amir Sadollah vs. Phil Baroni
Luiz Cane vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Karo Parisyan vs. Dustin Hazlett

Preliminary Bouts
Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders
Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt
Paulo Thiago vs. Jacob Volkmann
Brock Larson vs. Brian Foster
Caol Uno vs. Fabricio Camoes
George Sotiropoulos vs. Jason Dent

Amir Sadollah and Phil Baroni are both coming off losses in their last outings, with Sadollah suffering a devastating TKO in his first UFC appearance since winning The Ultimate Fighter, and Baroni stepping back into the Octagon for the first time since February 2005 (UFC 51, a loss to Pete Sell). At 13-11, “The New York badass” has become as well known for his monkeyshines outside the cage as for his skills as a fighter, but he’s a seasoned veteran who knows how to throw a punch. Sadollah will need to stick to a good gameplan, using his Muay Thai kicks to keep away from Baroni’s power. If he’s up to the challenge, it’ll be a big win for him and what’s likely to be a much-needed confidence booster.

The bout between Cane and Nogueira has been rumored for months and we’re happy to finally make it official –the twin brother of UFC star Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is making his UFC debut. Though less decorated than his brother, Rogerio is every bit as tough as Rodrigo and with wins over guys like Vladimir Matyushenko, Alistair Overeem, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Dan Henderson. This is a welcome addition to the UFC roster. Nogueira is an explosive fighter who has the ability to end a fight on the feet or on the mat with his world-class jiu-jitsu, and this bout will add plenty of excitement to the card that suffered the unfortunate loss of a headlining fight between UFC Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin.
