punk photgraphy was tough in the early days

December 4, 2010

Today I am mostly known as a punk photographer, but my friends know I took lots of other types of photos too.  I photographed some pop bands, portraits, street photography, and assemblage art.

I went to over 1000 punk shows in the early days here in Los Angeles.

It was a real challenge to capture still images from such a broiling chaotic scenario time and time again.  At one point I remember shooting with my flash duct taped on there, just barely hangin on.  I didn't have auto functions, this was before digital cameras, everything was still very manual.  I still can't believe how sharp and clear so many of those shots turned out.  It was fun, but also very challenging to pull still images from such fast moving subjects.
