The Dowdle Brothers are Afraid

January 21, 2010

John and Drew Dowdle, better known as the Dowdle Brothers, are attached to direct and produce, respectively, an adaptation of the novel Afraid. Since these are the brothers who brought us The Poughkeepsie Tapes and Quarantine, this project has the potential to be pretty exciting.

The script for the adaptation of Jack Kilborn's Afraid is being written by Larry Malkin and Chad Thumann, and the story has a horror/sci-fi bent to it. Bloody Disgusting gives us some of the details:

After a helicopter crash unleashes a rogue Red-Ops unit on Safe Haven, Wisconsin, its residents must band together to defend themselves against these brutal "trans-human" killers. This is slated to be a franchise in the vein of Terminator and Aliens.

This sounds like a very cool concept, something along the lines of 30 Days of Night, except with trans-human monsters instead of vampires.

It will be interesting to see where the Dowdle Brothers go with this concept, and whether they are able to make the trans-humans suitably terrifying.

Does this have a chance of being cooler than the forthcoming Predators? Which would you rather see?
