The Top 10 Red Band Trailers of 2010

December 28, 2010

When it comes to watching trailers, there’s nothing better than seeing the term "Red Band" in the title. Why? Because you get to see trailers the way they were meant to be seen. Uncensored and balls-to-the-wall. Over the past few years Red Band trailers have been all the rage on the Internet, but this year’s selection might be the best of the bunch.

10. Cop Out

After the first trailer for Cop Out was deemed an unmitigated disaster, a new Red Band trailer was released and all that negativity changed overnight. Yes, it was much, much funnier than the first, and yes, it shows Tracy Morgan punching a kid in the balls. What more could you ask for in a Red Band trailer? The movie itself didn’t get much better than the uncensored trailer, but at least it had some hilarious Tracy Morgan moments mashed together with the always epic Ram Jam classic “Black Betty.”

9. Love and Other Drugs

Love and Other Drugs is based on the book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a salesman who works in the weird world of pharmaceutical drugs and begins to find serious success selling a new male performance enhancement drug. Gyllenhaal eventually meets Anne Hathaway's character during one of his sales calls and pretty much falls head over heals for her. The main thing worth watching in this trailer is Anne Hathaway. She shows a ton of skin and kinda acts like a naughty slut. Just sayin’.

8. I Love You Phillip Morris

Wow. So most of you dudes out there may have a little trouble getting through the uncensored trailer for the Jim Carrey straight-man-gets-in-a-car-accident-discovers-he's-gay-and-goes-to-jail comedy I Love You Phillip Morris. It’s easily one of the rawest Red Band clips ever to hit the Interwebs. I know I’m not alone when I saw I could've gone without seeing Mr. Carrey getting it on with a sweaty dude, but the balls it took to release this thing definitely deserves some kind of "love." The makers of Bad Santa are naughty dudes.

7. Repo Men

Repo Men follows two men (Jude Law and Forest Whitaker) in the future whose job it is to cut out the artificial organs from people who can no longer make their payments. The Red Band trailer showcased the amazing cast as well as the awesome-looking action. A little blood is also up in the mix. I know it’s gross, but there’s just something so satisfying about seeing graphic images of humans getting their organs repossessed.

6. Faster

The Red Band trailer for the action bonanza Faster is seriously off the charts, people. Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, Faster is about an ex-convict (Johnson) who sets out to avenge his brother's death after they both get double-crossed during a heist. This Red Band trailer blew the first teaser out of the water with a whole hell of a lot of blood and...even more blood. What more can a guy ask for?

5. Let Me In

One of the best reviewed films of the year, Let Me In is the American remake of the amazing Swedish horror film Let the Right One In. In it, a 12-year-old boy in a New Mexico town in the early 1980s develops a friendship with a very young vampire played by Kick-Ass’ Chloë Grace Moretz. If you think she was deadly in Kick-Ass, this film sees the pint-sized actress disposing of human bodies in ways you never thought imaginable. The film itself was brilliant and so was the use of blood and gore.

4. Predators

I’m pretty sure that Predators didn’t really need any serious promotion to be a box office smash, but the extremely bloody Red Band trailer for the film definitely didn’t hurt things. Adrien Brody stars as a mercenary leading a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet as prey for a gang of badass Predators. The blood and gore that takes place here easily made die-hard fans of the series salivate for more. Maybe that’s why it took in over $126 million at the box office.

3. MacGruber

There were a few Red Band trailers for the SNL-inspired comedy MacGruber let loose on the Interwebs before its release and they were all pretty much solid gold. Each one featured even more unseen footage than the next and also supplied viewers with over-the-top action wrapped around extremely filthy jokes. As you should all already know, Will Forte plays the wacky special agent MacGruber who totally destroys everything he touches. He also rips out some dude’s throat. Epicness.

2. Hot Tub Time Machine

When three guys find a hot tub that doubles as a time machine they get sent back 20 years and rediscover the awesomeness of the '80s. In-deed. The Red Band trailers that were unleashed for the comedy Hot Tub Time Machine were easily some of the best put together all year. Most of the reason is due to the hilarious dirty jokes and lots of hot ladies wearing very little clothing. Sounds like a perfect movie recipe to me. Boobs don't hurt matters either.

1. Kick-Ass

The Red Band clips put together in promotion for Kick-Ass might have legitimately been the key to the film's box office success. In this brilliant trailer, we get an epic introduction of Hit Girl. She looks cute and sweet, but inside lurks a vigilante who would make Batman blush. She knows her way around knives, guns, and whips, and she's not afraid to maim, murder, and destroy anyone who gets in the way of justice. I know I’m not the only one when I say that this was the clip that made me go see Kick-Ass in the first place.
